10 Staples For Your Fall Wardrobe

September 5, 2014 By Nicki Leave a Comment

Wow, I can’t believe it is already September!  It seems like I blinked and summer was coming to and end.  I went back to work for another school year on August 4, so in a small way, that is already the end of summer for me.  No more pool days in the middle of the week.  And back to going to bed early and waking up early.  And now that September is underway, I have alreay started thinking about my fall wardrobe, have you?  I have been doing a lot of “window shopping” online and thinking about what key pieces I am going to purchase for fall that will also take me through until spring.  I am so escited to share my 10 staples for your fall wardrobe today.  Here are the key items that I would like to add to my closet in the coming months.

I fell in love with these caged leather booties the minute I saw them. I love the color of these, the chunky heel, and the strappiness (I might have just made up that word).   I finally ordered them last weekend, and am anxiously awaiting their arrival!  They are currently on sale for $77.96 (40% off).  Some other similar booties can be found at Modcloth and Zappos.  I plan to wear these with many things, including boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans, dresses, leggings, and skirts.

It is no secret that my favorite color is red.  I love red for fall, and a trench coat is always in fashion!  I already bought a red trench coat at the Tommy Hilfiger Outlet over the summer, but I put it away and have been saving it up for fall.  I can’t find the exact jacket online anywhere, but this Guess one is on sale for $99.90 (55% off).  You can find similar red trench coats at Sears and 6PM.com.  This red jacket is sure to be an eye catcher.  And I am sure I will be wearing it many times for the next few years or maybe even longer.  And bonus!  My son’s school colors are red, black and white, so this jacket will be perfect to wear to his sporting events.

I am due for a new pair of jeans this fall.  I don’t think I bought a single new pair last winter.  I love the surf blue wash on these relaxed skinny jeans.  And bonus!  I think they would look great with my new caged booties!  I would also like to have a pair of dark skinny jeans that I can tuck into tall boots.  I want high waisted ones, because frankly, I am one of those girls who have despised low waisted jeans ever since they came in style, and I want a high waist!  I just feel comfortable in them!  I absolutely love the ones pictured below from Zara.

I need a new pair of black tall boots.  I completely wore mine out over the past few winters, and actually got rid of them after last winter.  So a new pair of black boots are a must have for me.  The one’s pictured below are a fairly reasonable price at $139.95 (and free shipping).  I would probably get three years of wear out of them so the price is worth it to me.  If you are able to splurge, I absolutely love these black Frye boots from Nordstrom, but they are out of my price range at $377.95.    I haven’t settled on the exact pair I want to buy yet, but I am sure you will be seeing them in my WIWW posts in the coming months.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago in this post, that I was in love with the denim shirtdress, and fall is the perfect time of year for it.  I bought this one from Gap, but you can find similar ones at Target and Old Navy.   I think it will look great with the caged booties I ordered, or a pair of tall boots in any color.  And I will also be wearing them with leggings and colored tights for winter.  This dress looks good both with and without a belt.

I would like to find a plaid shirt.  There are so many out there to choose from, but I am kind of leaning toward a classic looking one.  And there are so many ways to wear a plaid shirt.  Under a sweater or cardigan, over a graphic T-shirt, wrapped around your waist, paired with an army jacket.  I could go on people.  I love this red and black one from Gap, but you can find other great and affordable ones at Old Navy or Target.

If you live someplace where you have cold winters like I do, you need a chunky sweater.  If you follow my weekly outfit posts, you already know that I wear a sweater almost every work day, no matter what.  I am drooling over this chunky sweater from Zara.  I probably won’t pay the $79.90 price tag for this, but I will definitely be on the lookout for something similar this fall, in a neutral color like this.  You can also look at thrift stores for old chunky sweaters,  I have found some really cool ones.  Another chunky sweater I love is from Urban Outfitters.

I am always on the lookout for a cool scarf, and this fall is no exception.  These tassle scarves pictured come in several colors and I am loving anything with tassles right now.  Asos also has a tribal scarf that I am loving.  Also, if you don’t have a plaid scarf, go and get one!  I bought one last winter that I will still be wearing a lot this fall and winter.

I love the anorak vest.  Since I already chose a jacket for fall, I thought this was a nice addition.  And again, very versatile.  It can be worn with a plaid or chambray shirt, jeans or leggings, even with a chunky sweater or a dress.  Great layering piece!  I also love the quilted puffer vest from JCrew Outlet, and have seen it worn in several ways, all cute, and the camo field jacket at Loft is equally as versatile and adorable.

And last but not least, have you seen the jogger pant?  I am obsessed with them!  They are in lots of stores right now, and they are so comfy and cute!  I definitely will be buying a pair or two of these to lounge around the house or run errands on the weekend in.  The ones pictured are horribly expensive at $109, but hey if you can afford them, go for it.  I prefer something a lot more thrifty with the same look as the more expensive ones.  Like the woven chambray joggers at Forever 21, which are only $24.80, or the cuff joggers at PacSun for only $34.95.  Update: 9/8/14 I found joggers on sale at JCPenney yesterday for $14.99, in the store.  They are on JCPenney online for $17.99.  I bought a pair in black, and they are in the junior department, so I found that I needed to size up one size.
