Bathroom Cabinet Organization Doesn’t Have to be Matchy-Matchy!

Hey friends!  I have always taken pride in the fact that I am a pretty organized person.  I like for everythign to have a place.  It just makes life seem to run a little bit more smoothly.  If things are unorganized, I start to feel twitchy.  It will bug me, and it will steal away my contentedness.  How about you?  I really want to talk to you about organization today because I think that if you look all over Pinterest, or other online sources for organization ideas, it can be a little discouraging.  We see these perfectly organized cabinets and closets and pantries, and everything is perfect and it all matches, kind of like this bathroom cabinet, or this linen closet, or this pantry.

Not that these aren’t wonderful, don’t get me wrong, I would love to have them all.  But do you really think that is how the majority of people’s cabinets and closets look?  And does everything have to look perfect and matchy-matchy to be organized and in its place?  I don’t think so!  I am the girl with champagne taste and a tight budget right here!  And I can promise you one thing- if I am going to spend my good money on something, it’s probably going to be something that people can actually see in my home.  So today, I am going to show you how my bathroom is organized.  I don’t have a lot of storage in my bathroom, but I have managed to find a place for everything, and I think it is pretty darn organized.  It’s nt pretty or matchy-matchy, but it serves its purpose.  So if you are with me on this whole organization thing, then maybe this post is for you! This is what my bathroom cabinets look like.  I only purchased one item to help me organize under my bathroom cabinet. Everything else I already had.

It might not be the most beautiful picture you have ever seen of organizing under a bathroom cabinet, but it works for us.  We don’t have to rummage around for anything, and everything has a place.

You might remember this bamboo shelf that used to hang on the wall over my bathtub.  I bought it for 75 cents at Goodwill.  Well, I recently hung some bins on that wall that gave me some very much needed storage for towels and washcloths.  I just love these bins!

Actually those bins are what started me on re-organizing the rest of my cabinets, because they freed up storage place in my cabinet.  Anyway, I decided to use this bamboo shelf under my bathroom cabinet instead of getting rid of it.  It fit the space perfectly!  On the top shelf, I have items that are duplicates, and just waiting for me to use up products I have until I can get these out.  It also holds a travel mirro that I take with me on road trips, extra cotton balls, and our toilet cleaner and extra garbage can liners.  If you look at the above picture, I store our bubble bath and wrinkle remover right in front of this shelf.  That reminds me that I need to share my recipe for making my own wrinkle remover.  I am obsessed, and I literally use it every day!

These plastic drawers used to belong to my daughter, and she put them in a pile to get rid of, so I kept them, knowing I could find a place for them.  and they fit perfectly under my bathroom cabinet!  I’m so glad that I snatched them up!

This metal storage unit is the one thing that I purchased just for this space.  I bought mine at Target, but can’t seem to find it online.  Here is a link to one that is very similar on Amazon.  I really love this because the drawer pulls out for easy access.  I keep our mouth wash and pwder on top, and in the drawer I keep all of the daily vitamins and medications I take, along with hair and body products.

Here is a collage to show what is contained in each of the plastic drawers under the cabinet.  On top of the drawers I keep scissors and nail files, and the Scooby Doo cup is used daily to rinse out the bathtub after we take baths.  I could have been fancy and labeled these with pretty labels, but I didn’t think it was neccessary because they are pretty much see through.  The drawers contain random items that are small enough to fit into drawers, like manicure and pedicure items, bandaids, and other small items.

Let’s move on to the drawers on either side of the cabinets.  I organized these years ago, and they have pretty much stayed this way ever since.  This drawer houses our hair dryer, and the basket contains hair accessories for my husband and son.  the basket is actually one that I received a flower arrangement it from the floris, and I kept it for organizational purposes.

This drawer contains my jewelry cleaners, a bin of nail polish, and other items I use for travel, along with a couple of chargers.

This drawer is shared between my husband and myself, and all of the small bins were purchased at the Target Dollar Spot for cheap.  These are items we use pretty much on a daily basis, like shaving and skin care items.

This drawer contains feminine items bobby pins, wipes, my deoderant and eye makeup remover, and the basket in the back contains razors and small travel sized bottles of things.

This drawer contains our hair brushes and combs, and all of my other hair accessories, straightener, curling irons, and the mirror I use to see the back of my hair.  This is also where I keep my hair spray and my heat protective spray.

You may have seen this black cabinet before.  It is something that I have plans to paint at some point, because I don’t think it really goes in our bathroom anymore, but the cabinet fits perfectly in this space, and I need it for storage.  But I have never showed the inside of this cabinet before.

This entire cabinet used to contain towels, but when we hung the bins on the wall, I moved all of our white towels to them, and then I moved all of our cleaning supplies into this cabinet.  They used to be housed under our bathroom cabinet.

I am very happy with our bathroom organization, and I think I have maximized the space that I have.  I could spend a nice sized chunk of change to make everything match perfectly and look Pinterest-worthy, but I just don’t feel that is necessary.  I’m not going to tell you that I will never have picture perfect organization in my closets and my cabinets.  Because who knows, maybe one day when everything else on my priority list of things we need to do in this house is finished, I might consider making those spaces beautiful.  But by then, we will probably be ready to sell this house and move onto the next one!  So, if I were you, I wouldn’t keep my fingers crossed for that!  But hey, you never know!  I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my organized bathroom.  What are your feelings about cabinet and closet organization?  Are yours magazine worthy?  Have a happy Friday and a great weekend!  We are off for a little weekend getaway to the DC area for some much needed adult time, how about you?
