Today is part four of my Christmas home tour, my casual Christmas dining room.
Hey friends! Can you believe that Christmas is less than one week away? And it’s almost 2018? This year flew by so quickly, and I guess what they say is true. The older you get the faster time flies. I have one final Christmas post for you today, and it’s my Christmas dining room. This room may just be my least favorite room in the house. Mostly because it is also our home office, and I truly don’t like having a shared space like this. I would love to have a separate space in our home to serve as our office, and this room can be simply the dining room. I do, however, really like the chandelier over the table. This was a DIY project that I found at a yard sale and painted to give it a whole new look.
Please take the time to check out part one, part two, and part three of my Christmas Home Tour!
This is about as close as I am going to get to showing you the office side of the room because it’s just not pretty you guys! But I did capture this one photo where you can see the desk chair.

Since I took these photos, I have bought a new chair for our desk. And it did a lot to improve the look of this space. You can see a photo I took with my phone of the new chair below. It is called the Finley swoop arm accent chair from Target. I ordered it online and it was free shipping. I had a $100 gift card to Target, and I decided to try and purchase a new desk chair. But I didn’t want it to be a chair on casters or anything like that. I wanted it to be an accent chair that was comfortable to sit in and I don’t like having casters on my hard wood floors. I really like the fabric on this chair with the herringbone pattern because it will go with pretty much any color scheme, and I like that it is a firm chair, not cushiony and soft, which is not what I was looking for in a desk chair. I did put some felt pads on the bottoms of the chair legs to keep them from scratching the floor.
I have owned this buffet for 25 years. I bought this as part of a set that came with a hutch, and a table and chairs, and I got it through a local newspaper where people would sell things, so it wasn’t brand new even then. I have since sold off all of the other pieces (kind of regret that), and I am left with the buffet, which is in desperate need of some kind of makeover. It also came with the mirror hanging above it. This spot happens to be one of my favorite places to decorate for the seasons.
I really wanted to keep my Christmas decor more simplified this year, and I feel that I accomplished that. Usually, by this time I am twitching because I feel overwhelmed by clutter, but this year, I haven’t gotten that feeling at all. I kept it really simple on our dining table with three blue ball jars. I just added some fake snow and some red and blue ornaments and placed them on a silver tray. Easy peasy but still pretty.
I am in love with the macrame table runner that I picked up at World Market over the summer. It is great for any season, and I couldn’t bear to part with it to replace it with something else for Christmas. And this table is not the table of my dreams either, but I am on the fence about what I want to do, paint it or replace it. This is not our forever home, and part of me wants to wait until we eventually have a new house and buy something to fit that space, but the other part of me hates this table and wants to replace it. I’ll probably eventually paint it. Time will tell.

I have developed a little fascination with miniature high heels ornaments, and for the past few years I have been buying one if I see it. I hung them all (4 of them) on these little LED lit branches that I placed in this galvanized steel bucket.
You can see more evidence of the home office below. These two file cabinets were a thrift store find and I made them over to use in here for much needed storage.
Most of what I used to decorate this buffet are things I have had for a while. Nothing here is brand new, but I try to re-use things in different ways each year. I love the snowy white tree you see here. I placed it on this little cake stand that I found at Home Goods, and it just makes it a little more special. I bought the cotton stems to use for my Fall decor, but I liked the way they look in these amber bottles, so I decided to keep them around for Christmas. The velvet reindeer has a little piece of plaid ribbon ties around his neck to mimic a scarf.
As I mentioned above, this room is not my fave, and I am longing for a home office. We still aren’t sure how much longer we will be living in this home. But our daughter is graduating from college in May and will be off to start a life of her own someplace far away. So, we are thinking once she is all settled wherever she lands, that we are going to transition her bedroom into a guest room/home office. That way she will still have a place to sleep when she visits, but we will be able to move our office out of the dining room and take the dining room back. It is bittersweet to see her go, but we will enjoy having more space to spread out in this house for as long as we still live here.
Thank you so much for joining me today for a tour of my casual Christmas dining room! This wraps up my Christmas home tour series for the year. I haven’t decided for sure yet, but today may be my last post before Christmas. I have enjoyed everything about the Christmas season so far this year, and I hope you are enjoying yours. I am so very thankful for you taking the time to be here to visit me on my blog, this Christmas and every day all year long. Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Throughout the whole post I kept on staring at your gorgeous rug Nikki! The room is beautiful and I too have been trying to keep things calm over the holidays. I achieved it by eliminating the red as much as possible. But I also really like your balls in the jars idea. Simple and very pretty.
