Christmas Burlap Wreath & Centerpiece

December 19, 2013 By Nicki Leave a Comment

I can’t believe that Christmas is less than a week away!  I am not one shopping!  We still have to make cookies, decorate Gingerbread Houses, visit grandparents and finish shopping, but it will all get done somehow.

I showed you my Christmas home tour earlier this week, and I wanted to focus in on a couple of things to give you a closer look.  If you are stopping by for the first time, you may not have seen my DIY Burlap wreath before.

I made this wreath in the fall of 2012, and have decorated for every season since.  I wanted to show you what it looks like for Christmas.  It hangs in my dining room/office right now.  But soon we will be hanging shelves on this wall, so it will have to find a new home.

If you would like to see how I made this wreath, click here.  This year, I kept it fairly simple.  I was in a hurry to get my decorating finished, and just decided to use things I already had on hand to switch my wreath out.

Some plaid ribbon that I used a lot of for my Christmas décor, a velvet poinsettia, and a little Christmas sprig.

I tied a simple bow with the ribbon, and voila!  Done!  Mark that off the list in 5 minutes!  And I like the way it turned out too!  If you would like to check out my burlap wreath for all of the different seasons, you can find them here, here, here and here.

Next up is my centerpiece on our dining table.  I purchased this planter at a thrift store in Florida over the summer, and I wanted to use it on the table for Christmas.

I purchased these white candles from Pottery Barn, and I just stuck a bunch of fresh pine sprigs all around the candles.  BTW, the candles were not tall enough so I used some little dishes and placed them upside down under each candle.   One thing I always do when decorating with new candles is to light them and let the wick burn down just a little.  I think it makes a candle look better.  I have heard that having unlit candles in your home is bad luck.  I just think it looks more lived in when your candles have been lit.  What do you think?

After I had all of the pine looking the way I wanted it, I used another velvet poinsettia, but I pulled it apart and scattered the petals throughout the arrangement.

Lastly, I wrapped a red ribbon around the planter using double sided tape.

Both of these were easy peasy.  Even the burlap wreath was not hard to make at all, and it has been a wonderful wreath and so versatile for all seasons.    I hope you enjoyed my easy and economical decorations for my dining room/office today!  Have a good one!Link Parties:
