Christmas in My Family Room

December 21, 2015 By Nicki Leave a Comment

Christmas in my family room
Hi all!  Today is my last post of my Christmas home tour, which I have been sharing with you room by room.  You can catch all of the posts by clicking these links- my plaid inspired Christmas tree, my rustic woodland Christmas mantle, my plaid inspired Christmas living room,  my Christmas entryway and DIY advent calendar garland, Christmas kitchen, DIY pom-pom snowballs, and 10 DIY ways to use plaid in your Christmas Decor.  This is my downstairs family room, and also the room where my kids hang out with friends and watch movies, etc.  My husband and I really don’t use it much.  But I like to decorate it a little and make it festive for them, I think they enjoy it!

This tree used to be in our main living room, but we got a new tree for upstairs, so this one is down here now.  It is a pretty skinny tree and fits nicely into this corner.  Several of the ornaments on this tree are handmade by the children or are special ornaments that they have collected over the years. This year I used a burlap ribbon as garland, which was on my upstairs tree for the past two years.

The armoire you see here houses a lot of my craft and decorating supplies, you can can read more about it here.  I am so happy to have a centralized space to keep my loot!

I bought these lamps for a steal about a year ago, and I just love the retro vibe they give to the room!  You can read more about them here.

I recently made a gift wrapping station in this old dresser that I made over.  You wouldn’t believe how handy it was on Saturday when I had a marathon gift wrapping session!  And as for this dresser, I am dying to share the makeover with you and tell you all about how I did it.  That post is coming after the madness of the holidays is over.

You can see out into my downstairs hallway/mudroom/laundry room here.  I thought I would show you how this hallway is looking now, I haven’t shown it on the blog lately.  This spot is a very hard working spot, trust me!  I am starting to think about updating this area a little soon!  the shelf and the bench are going to get lightened up, and possibly some rustic wood on the wall behind them.

I recently removed all of these glass vessels from above my front door ledge, and I sat them on the stairs temporarily until I could put them away somewhere.  And as I kept passing by them sitting there, it struck me to try putting fake snow in them and adding some LED candles, so that is what I did!  they are very difficult to photograph well, but they have turned out to be one of my favorite things about my Christmas decor this year.  They add a little night light to these stairs at night, and the candles change colors every few seconds.  I just think they are fun, and they look really cool in person, way more so than in the pictures.

Here’s a look at the hallway from a different angle.  the black door leads to the garage, and the closet doors are my laundry closet.  This is also a good shot of my DIY temporary solution to hide the ugly boob light.  I recently added this little blingy curtain tie back to the light.  I just tied it around the metal rod that hangs down right in the center (where I removed the boob light cover), and it looks so cute and dresses the light up a bit.  I like the way it sparkles in the sun too.

Wow, I finished my tours for Christmas, with three days to spare!  I have to say, I learned a little blogging lesson this year, and that is that I need to pre-plan and schedule more for Christmas next year.  I felt like I was playing catch up for the entire month of  December.  Next year I am going to be more organized and have everything planned out in advance, so that I can spend more time enjoying the season and less time stressing out about things.  It wasn’t all stressful though.  I have had time to share with family and friends, and somehow we managed to squeeze everything in.  So for the rest of the week I can sit back and enjoy myself, and tomorrow is my last day of work before Christmas Break, so I will have 12 days to reboot and even work on some projects!  Thanks for coming by today, or any day this month to see my Christmas posts, and I hope you have a wonderful week!
