Christmas In My Kitchen

December 18, 2015 By Nicki Leave a Comment

Christmas in my Kitchen
Hi all!  I am here to share with you our very simple Christmas kitchen today, but before we get started with the tour, you might want to check out the rest of the Christmas decor I have shared so far this year (just click the links): my plaid inspired Christmas tree, my rustic woodland Christmas mantle, my plaid inspired Christmas living room,  my Christmas entryway and DIY advent calendar garland, DIY pom-pom snowballs, and 10 DIY ways to use plaid in your Christmas Decor.  I kept my kitchen very simple this year, mostly because I didn’t have an energy left after decorating the rest of the house!  I had visions of hanging pretty boxwood wreaths on the windows with plaid bows, and adding fresh greenery to my pot rack, yes, beautiful in my mind for sure.  But I guess there’s always next year!  But hopefully you will enjoy it anyway, starting with my very simple Hot Drink station that has everything one needs for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, what would you prefer?.

I love my mug hanger, and it is fun to pull out all of Christmas mugs at this time of the year.  I purchased a new one from Target this year that says “Santa, the original hipster”, I had to have it! You can read more about my mug hanger and this vintage bar cart that I made over here.  These polka dot cafe curtains were my first attempt at making no sew curtains.

This snowman draft catcher has been hanging around our doors for years now, and I just can’t part with it.  I mean, he is cute and functional, so what’s not to like?

This plaid cocktail plate came in a pack of 4 from the Target One Spot, and each is a different plaid. Swoon!  Absolutely love them!  I scattered them around in different spots in my decor this year.

I don’t think I have shared my new to me vintage stool that has found a spot in our kitchen recently.  I purchased this over the summer, and it sat in my garage for months while I tried to decide whether to make it over or leave it.  When I was cleaning house getting ready to host Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to bring it up and leave it alone for a bit and see how I liked it.  so I took some Clorox wipes and wiped it down really good, and here it is!  Right now I am leaning towards just leaving it in all of it’s rusty glory.  What do you think?  Let me just be honest for a second.  I have crap on the side of my fridge- there!  I have thought of DIY’ing something to contain it all but still look cute, but I haven’t gotten that far yet.  But one thing on the side of the fridge is cute, and it’s my Santa magnet! Mr. 7 Year Old loves it, anyway.

Just a couple of red felt ornaments that I placed on the island, and I actually have a strand of red berries placed around the basket on the island too, but I guess I didn’t place it there until after these pictures.  I just noticed that they were missing s I am writing this.
Christmas in my Kitchen
I have lots of hand made ornaments that my kids have brought home from school over the years, and I hung a selection of them from my pot rack.  I also filled this glass vase with a few glittered ornaments.

One of my most cherished Christmas decorations is the brass bell you see hanging on the pot rack. My grandmother left this to me, and you can pull on the golden pinecone and it plays a song.  I still have the original box that it came in, and on the box she wrote a note that said I was the first grandchild to ever pull this to here the music, and therefore it was to be given to me.  The box she wrote the note on is falling apart, and I have done my best to tape it up with packing tape because of the note she wrote on that box.  It is so special to me that it makes me tear up just writing this.  And I do remember going to visit her and her or grandad lifting me up over and over again so I could pull on the pinecone.  Those are cherished memories.

Two  more rooms to go and I will be finished showing you my Christmas Home Tour!  Wanna take bets as to whether I can get it all in before Christmas Eve!  It’s Friday everyone, and I, for one, am so thankful.  I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
