DIY Mason Jar Caddy

Hey friends!  Well, its Friyay!  I hope your week has went by quick.  We have been nursing a sick child for most of the week.  Hopefully he will be feeling better so he can enjoy his weekend.  Today I want to share this cute little mason jar caddy that I built last summer at Haven.  I had been meaning to paint it for months, and I finally got around to it.  It is such a versatile piece, and I have styled it three ways to give you some ideas for how you can use it.  Let me tell you more about my DIY mason jar caddy!

I built this at a workshop that I attended, and if you would like to build one for yourself, you can click this link for the plans.  It was really easy, trust me, this was my very first time building something like this, and look how cute it turned out!  I used a nail gun to put it together, which made building it a breeze!

I painted my mason jar caddy with Americana Decor chalky finish paint in the color Refreshing.  I did two light coats on it and waited in between coats for the paint to dry.  Also, I did sand this down before painting it, but I did that at the workshop, not at home.  So mine was ready for paint already.  The first way I styled it is to use it as flower vases.  I also used Rub n Buff in Antique Gold to paint the lids to the jar.  I just rubbed it on with my finger and then buffed it with a clean rag.  I like the way the jars look so much better this way!  I plan to possibly use this in our guest bathroom to hold cotton balls and the like, so if I do I will put the lids on it for that.

This mason jar caddy would also be great to use to hold utensils for entertaining.  I can definitely see myself using it this way several times in the future!

After I finished painting this caddy, I then painted it with Americana Decor dark cream wax.  I didn’t really use it according to the directions, I have to be honest.  I just painted it on in very small sections, and then I wiped most of it back off immediately with a damp rag.  This method gave it the perfect distressed look that I was going for!

Another great use for this mason jar caddy is to use it to hold makeup brushes.  This would look so cute in a bathroom or a bedroom!  I can think of so many different ways and spots to use this in my home, so I’m sure you will be seeing it my decor more than once!  I just love the way it turned out!  I don’t know why I waited so long to get this done!

By the way, I also painted the mirror you see in the background with the same antique gold Rub n Buff, you can read more about this mirror by clicking here.  It used to be over our mantle until we were able to get the perfect mirror for that spot.  But I knew I would find another spot for this mirror.  All of the photographs of this caddy were taken in my daughter’s new bedroom, so if you would like to see the full reveal, click here.  This room has the best natural light in the house, so I am loving being able to take pictures in there!

Here are a couple close up shots of what the dark wax looks like on the chalky paint.

Have you tried dark wax over chalk paint before?  This was my first time using it, and I love the results!  Can you think of any cool uses for this mason jar caddy?  I would love you to tell me in the comments!  Thanks for stopping by today, and have a great weekend!
