Fall Home Tour

September 29, 2014 By Nicki Leave a Comment

Today is an exciting day for me!  Because I get to have you over for my first ever Fall Home Tour!  After almost two years of blogging here, it’s about time I have a fall tour, don’t you think?  I spent all last weekend decorating for this momentous occasion, so I do hope you enjoy!  I love decorating for the different seasons of the year, and I felt particularly in the fall spirit this year, so I had much fun with this!  Fall is that cozy, nesting, boot and chunky sweater wearing, cross country and soccer time of year at the Parrish house.  And my house is nowhere near finished or perfect, but should that stop me from showing it to you?  Not in my book!   I am not quite finished with the outside, but this is a peek at my front stoop so far.  Come on in!  I am so glad that you are here!   Do you have particular Fall traditions to help get your family into the Fall spirit?
In case this is your first time visiting, we live in a 1996 split level that we are slowly updating, and making our own.  We have come a long way, but we have even farther to go.  We do projects around here as time and our budget allows.  And most of the stuff we do is DIY and budget friendly.  We love to thrift, collect, and piece together a home that is uniquely ours.  We like to call our design style eclectic, modern, polished-casual.  This is what you will see as soon as you walk in our front door.  You can read more about this artwork here.

And here are a couple of pulled back shots of our entry.  Last fall, we painted this entryway, including the walls and the stair rails.  A couple of weeks ago I painted the stair risers and trim.  I will be sharing details of that on the blog soon.  It was unintentional, but I kind of have a sunflower theme going on this year.  It might have something to do with the bazillion sunflowers I purchased for Miss 18 Year Old’s graduation party back in May (wink wink).  I don’t think I have ever shown you the tapestry I hung here.  Our Swedish Daughter’s parents brought it to us from Sweden, and I love it!  I hung my witch from one of the hooks.
DSCN5951
Since taking this picture, I have changed the décor somewhat on my shoe cabinet.  It just didn’t look right to me, so I tweaked it some more.  I painted the sisal rug in front of the door last winter.
DSCN5799
I love having a small surface to decorate in my entry.  Until we bought this shoe cabinet, I was really missing that in this area.  The jar on the stack of books has tiny LED lights in it, and we turn it on at night.
IMG_5592
You can read more about the DIY art in the white frame here.  I just laid a single sunflower on the cabinet, and filled my little round basket with some wooden and metal fruit that I have had for years.  I can never find just the right spot for this fruit, but I think I may have finally found the sweet spot for them in this basket!  The little glass rooster was brought home to me by Mr. 6 Year Old, which makes it that much sweeter.
IMG_5586
This cute little pumpkin buttercream scented candle smells so good!  Perfect scent for fall!
IMG_5588
I found this velvet pumpkin at Marshall’s a few weeks ago.  If I remember correctly I bought the keys at Pier One a while back.
IMG_5590
I added this metal bucket of sunflowers on the floor next to the cabinet.  I have plans to try to make this bucket look aged using a tutorial I found on another blog, so stay tuned for that, because I will be sharing!
IMG_5593
As soon as you come to the top of our stairs, you see this bookshelf.  Actually, you can see it from the bottom of the stairs as well.  Notice the burlap flower in my painted mason jar on the top of the shelf.  I bought that flower at a local florist where I bought Mr. 14 Year Old’s homecoming flowers.  I wish I could have bought several, but sometimes one is sweet too.
DSCN5946
Three of the things I have framed on these shelves were free printables I found online.  I have a Pinterest Board for free pintable’s if you would like to follow it.
DSCN5947
The sofa table is to the right as soon as you top the stairs.  I recently moved the canvas over the table here after we hung our rustic barn beam mantle.  I really love this artwork, we purchased it a few years ago at Target.  It was actually LC who spotted it and wanted to buy it believe it or not.  There are a couple of DIY projects I completed for fall that are on this table.  I will be sharing details about them on the blog soon.

DSCN5944
I found the red and black thermos recently at Goodwill, and it simply had to come home with me.  I think it is perfect for fall.  so I cleaned it up and made it part of my décor!  You can see another free printable in this frame.
DSCN5898
The ceramic Dalmatian was something we were given from LC’s grandma.  He asked for it because he said he used to pet it all of the time as a child, when he visited his grandparent’s house.  It is old, and probably not worth much, and if you look real close you can see where it has been broken and glued back together.  But it is a wonderful memory to LC, and those make the best décor, don’t you think?  The painting propped up on the table was a Goodwill find last fall.  You can read more about my wrapped stack of books here.
DSCN5906
Let’s venture into the living room, shall we?  You can see our rustic barn beam mantle as soon as you turn the corner.  And although I am far from finished with the fireplace area, it still makes me happy every time I look at my mantle.
DSCN5950
I usually try to cut this lamp out of my pictures, but I recently found this black and white striped lampshade at a thrift store, and I like the way it looks now much better.  I do have plans to make over the base of this lamp soon though, but the shade will stay.
DSCN5975
I made this fall garland last year.  It is slightly faded this year, so this is probably the last year I will use it.
DSCN5938
I love the way this mantle turned out!  I just played with it and changed things around until it I liked the result.  I moved my thrifted Van Gogh to the mantel for Fall.  In case you are new here, this art is the inspiration for where I am going with my living room.
DSCN5976
I tied some faux fall leaves to these candles with some sisal, and they are perfect for my DIY lantern.
DSCN5977
DSCN5980
I bought this shiny green pumpkin at the end of the season last fall.  I hot glued some sisal twine to the stem to give it a little something extra.  Inside the frame is another free printable I found online.
DSCN5981
I am so excited to add a surround underneath my mantle!  I am hoping to finish it in time for my Christmas décor.
DSCN5968
I love the way the décor on this little bookcase turned out this year.
DSCN5914
The black and white print is yet another free printable.
DSCN5982
This framed artwork was a DIY project I did last weekend, and I will be sharing a tutorial on it soon.
DSCN5985
I have had this rustic looking fall pumpkin basket for more years than I can count, and every year I fill it with fall gourds and pumpkins.
DSCN5987
Miss 18 Year Old painted this ombre pumpkin last weekend when she was home.  It is real, but I almost wish it weren’t so I could keep it until next year.
DSCN5986
I am so over my TV table you all!  I have been looking for an old dresser that I can make over and use in this spot, and so far no luck!
DSCN5918
I gathered those branches on a hike we took last fall, and they have been in this vase ever since.  I have plans to add some fall foliage to them soon.  I had some awesome black bats fluttering around them last year, and I saved them for this year.  But for the life of me I cannot find them.  Don’t you hate when that happens?  I am still hoping to find them.
DSCN5868
The artwork in this frame is a post card I bought when we visited Falling Waters over the summer.  If you ever have the chance to tour Falling Waters, do it!  I loved it!  The straw pumpkin and the large orange one have been in my fall décor for a few years.  The small orange pumpkins were in a bag of gourds and pumpkins I bought at Target.  The red basket container on the shelf was a Goodwill find.
DSCN5870
DSCN5920
And this is our entire living room.  You can read more about where we bought the area rug here, and the curtains here.    We still need to paint the walls and ceiling in this room.
DSCN5971
Plaid blankets just scream warm and cozy in my opinion.  This blanket is an electric blanket throw, and the kids use it all of the time when it is cold outside.
DSCN5874
Not much really changed on this end table for fall.  I just added the sisal place mat to add a natural element and some texture.
DSCN5877
I bought this little silver feather at Marshall’s recently.
DSCN5927
You can read how I made these sweater pillows here and here.
DSCN5942
I added another plaid throw to our bench/coffee table.  Mr. 6 Year Old painted these pumpkins.
DSCN5923
DSCN5884
All I did on this table was replace some sea shells with these glittered miniature pumpkins.
DSCN5885
Let’s take a look at the dining room.
DSCN5892
This is my fall buffet.  You can see my fall buffet from last year here.  I moved Miss 18 Year Old’s senior picture that is yet to be framed to the buffet because I can’t bear to put it away.
DSCN5969
Some more sunflowers in a fall pitcher, and some faux fall leaves in my tea cup.  And I decided to place my white pumpkins together.
DSCN5930

The wooden bowl that the white pumpkin is sitting in was a find from the Mission.  I added a straw charger under the ceramic pumpkin for some texture.

DSCN5937
I shared a glimpse of my Vintage Vanity case recently.  The outside is finished, but I decided to wait until fall is over to finish the inside, because I placed some burlap fabric on the inside and love the way it looks.  The oval shaped picture inside the vanity case is part of a pair that I bought a few weeks ago at Goodwill.  And the little pine cone pumpkin has been around for years. Update:  Click here to read more about how I made over this vintage vanity case.
DSCN5960
My fall buffet is LC’s favorite part of the fall décor this year.
DSCN5963
I bought these little pots of sunflowers at Wal-Mart.  They were only $2.99 each, and I thought they would look good on the table.  I layered this fall runner that I bought last fall over top of my burlap runner.  And I put moss around each of the pots.

Thank you so much for joining me today for my Fall Home Tour!  I still have a few tweaks here and there, and some other décor in other rooms of my house that I will show you soon.  but I figured I had bombarded you enough with all of these pictures.  I will be sharing my DIY burlap wreath all dressed up for fall soon.  If you would like to take a look at some of my fall décor from the previous years you can click here, here, and here.  And I have tons of awesome fall inspiration on my Fall Décor Pinterest Board as well.
