It’s week 2 of the $100 Room Challenge, and this week I am sharing my inspiration and my furniture makeover plans for my dining room/office refresh.
Hey friends! It’s week 2 already and I haven’t even started! Unless you count planning for what I want to do and searching for inspiration. I also received some product I ordered that will be an integral part of my desk makeover. I spent a significant amount of time perusing Pinterest trying to decide what I want my dining table to look like, and I finally think I have it figured out. The photos below are what my dining table currently looks like. From these angles, you can’t see how damaged the table top is. That is called strategic photo taking and editing, my friends!
First, you should totally check out week 1 of this challenge! That way you will be up to speed! I have also been sharing a lot about this room refresh in real time on my Instagram stories.
I had someone make me the bench you see above last year, as part of the first phase of this makeover, that I completed for last winter’s $100 room challenge. That will be staying, and it won’t change at all. Once I am finished, I hope the table will blend in a whole lot better with this bench.
If you are new to the $100 Room Challenge you can read more about it here. But the basic premise for the challenge is this: you get one month, and $100, to completely makeover one space in your home. I know what you may be thinking… $100 is not a lot of money. Just wait. What you can do with $100 (and a little creativity) will absolutely blow your mind. And if you don’t believe me, just follow along, and click through and see what the other participants are doing for this challenge, and you will see so many great things happening with just a $100 budget. You can see the mudroom I made over for my first time participating in the $100 Room Challenge here.
If you found me through the $100 Room Challenge Link up, welcome! I am so happy you are here! My name is Nicki and I am the blogger behind Sweet Parrish Place. I love to share our DIY and home decor shenanigans, along with some organization, fashion, travel and other lifestyle types of topics. Thanks for reading!
I took to Pinterest looking for table makeover inspiration. Here are a few of my favorites.
Furniture Makeover Plans
I am loving the weathered finish on the top of this table makeover by Bless’er House. This looks almost exactly like the picture I have in my mind for the way I want this table to look. And her table base is almost identical to mine.
This lime washing technique used by A Storied Home is interesting and pretty too. Although I have a black table base now, and that is going much lighter, probably white. I have had the table for over 15 years, so I am ready for a change.
The other furniture piece I will be transforming for this challenge is my desk and the matching shelves that hang above. I purchased this desk and shelves from Ikea when we moved into this home. They were affordable and fit the space. And we felt like we were bleeding money at the time. Which is always how it is when you first purchase a new home. I do like the way there are shelves underneath of the desk because it allows me a lot of storage and organization. But it is time to give this whole thing a new look.
Please note: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links, which allows me to make a small commission from your purchase, but your purchase price stays the same.
Accent Chair | Desk Top | Wall Shelves
Below are a couple of inspiration photos for what I have in mind with this transformation. I will definitely be adding a marble self adhesive film to the top of the desk, like you see on the two examples below.
I am debating adding the same paper to the shelves, but we will have to see whether I have enough left. I purchased one roll for $9.49, and do not want to cut into my budget any more than that. After all, I only have $100 to transform this space. So, if I don’t have enough of the film, the shelves will be painted. The base shelves will also be getting a makeover, and I have not completely decided on what I plan to do with those yet. I plan to attempt to use all paint that I currently have on hand, because of my budget. So we shall see what I come up with!
I have yet to start actual work on this space yet, so yikes! I had to spend my time this past weekend clearing out Christmas so that I could start this project with a clean slate. I plan to have the dining room emptied of all decor before Friday, and then I will be starting work on one of these pieces Friday evening. I plan to share my progress and lots of sneak peeks at these makeovers over on my Instagram stories, so if you are interested, please go follow me there.
That is it for my week 2 update, and my furniture makeover plans! I should have some real progress to share with you by next week. I have also been shopping around and hoping I will find a new rug within my budget, but I know it may not happen. A girl can dream though, right?
