DIY Glitter Heart Wall Art Valentines Day Decor

January 30, 2017 By Nicki 18 Comments

DIY Valentines Day decor

Hey friends!  I hope you had a swell weekend!  I took Friday off and enjoyed a three day weekend just puttering around the house while the husband and the little was away.  I never left the house other than to walk the dog and that was just fine with me.  I love when that happens!  I have a fun little project for your Valentines Day decor to share with you today called my DIY glitter heart wall art.  And this was so simple to make, and I think it is something that you can leave out all the year through if you are a sucker for hearts like I am (I even have one in my logo!).

Weathered wood pallet

This Valentines Day decor is easy, and would be a great project to let your child help you with if you like!  And I am going to share with you how I made it.  I bought this weathered wood pallet at Walmart but can’t seem to find it online.  So I have linked above to a very similar one.  I also  used a wooden heart like the one you see below, but I had painted it red at some point.  You can still kind of see red through the glitter, so you can decide weather you want your heart to be red before you start or not.

I used fine gold glitter for this project, and modge podge.  And whatever type of glue you want to use to stick the heart to the wood pallet. These are the only 5 items you will need!

I began by glittering the heart.  I used a large baking sheet that I wrapped in aluminum foil to catch the glitter.  I simply placed my heart on the baking sheet and painted it with a coat of mod podge.  Then I sprinkled the glitter onto the heart until it was coated evenly and looked the way I liked it.  Then I let it sit there for an hour or so to dry.  After it was dry, I simply glued the glittery heart to the wood pallet and called it done!

I hung some adorable little chalkboard Valentines Day decor ornaments I found at AC Moore on my branches. But first I prepped them by using the side of a piece of chalk and covering each ornament in chalk to season it.  Next, I used a pink chalk marker to write some fun words associated with Valentines Day on each one, and I color cupid’s little heart with the pink as well.

I hung my DIY glitter heart on the gallery wall in the living room.  My DIY bookpage wreath usually hangs in this spot, but it got moved to another location over Christmas and never made it’s way back to the living room yet, so I decided to hang my heart here for a while.  You can see my painted wooden arrow and my decoupaged letter P hanging on this gallery wall as well.  To make the letter P I used a piece of tissue paper, and painted the letter with mod podge and then carefully stuck the tissue paper onto the letter and cut it to fit with an exacto knife.  You need to be careful to use a credit card to get out any bubbles that may form.  And my letter has a few little wrinkles, but you can’t see them unless you walk up to it and take a look.  I also made the white pom poms you see hanging from the large vase.

Before I go, I thought I would show you a couple of other little touches of Valentines Day decor I have sprinkled around the living room for Valentines Day.  I found this cute little XO at the Target dollar spot. That place never ceases to amaze me!  Every time I enter that store there is something there to love.  I place it on top of my painted vintage vanity case.

I placed some pink flowers in this striped pitcher and this amber bottle that I saved.  It is a Kombucha bottle that I saved after I was finished drinking it.  I just used some Goo Gone to remove the label.  Don’t these flowers look so real?  Well, they are fake, sorry to burst your bubble.  I put some water in the bottle to make them look real.  But the quality of fake flowers you can find nowadays is so good.  You can find lots of them that look very realistic.

Have you made any Valentines Day decor for yourself this year?  There is something about Valentines Day with all of the red and pink and hearts that I just love!  So I always sprinkle a few things around and you can see links to some more of my past Valentines Day projects below.  Have a great Monday!
