Shower Curtain// Rug// Basket// Soap Dispensers
Hey friends! I hope you have been having a good week. I’m currently wrapping up a super busy week, and this weekend will be the end of track season! My son and his track team will be running in the state championship tomorrow and Saturday, so positive vibes please! But I’m not here to talk to you about Track. I’m here to talk to you about my next big project, and this one has been a long time coming! I am in the midst of planning to give our guest/children’s bathroom a makeover, and I thought it would be fun to share where we are planning to go with it! And I would love it if you would chime in in the comments with your opinions and suggestions, because I am not completely firm on any decisions yet, so I need your help!
Here are a few pictures of the current state of this bathroom, which is used as a guest bathroom but is also used by my oldest daughter, Delaney, and Mr. 8 Year Old.
Most of what you see in this bathroom was brought from our old house, and I have done pretty much nothing since. Well, I did paint the baseboards because the paint was literally coming off of them and it just looked gross. I also renewed the dirty looking grout. I almost forgot! We also replaced the toilet last summer out of necessity. Both of those things were just to get the room looking more clean, and both of those things did help with that. I am so excited now to do a makeover on this space! On of the biggest things we have planned for this space is to install AirStone halfway up the walls. I have a ton of this stuff left over from when we used it on our fireplace, so I have been debating what to do with it, and I think this is it! Below you can see a picture of a bathroom that is done the same way. I plan to do white trim above just like this, and above I plan to paint the walls a fresh and simple white. The room has no windows, so I want to do white with the AirStone so as to keep it from looking too dark in there.
We will be painting the vanity that already exists in the room as well. I purchased a piece of what I believe is quartz, although it was advertised as granite, to use on top of the newly painted vanity, and install a white undermount sink. Here is a sample of what the counter top looks like. Its slightly off white, and we will be installing a white sink. It is a really neutral color that I think will match most anything.
I would like to paint the vanity a color like a shade of blue or green. I have already purchased a shower curtain that will be my inspiration for the room. Here is a picture of it in a bathroom. I’m really attracted to the colors in this shower curtain.
I would like to paint the vanity a pop of color that will coordinate with the shower curtain. Here are some pictures of bathrooms I have found as my inspiration for the colorful vanity. I would love to know what your thoughts are on the paint color I should use. Please feel free to suggest ideas to me! Any favorites from the pictures you see below?
I plan to replace the builder grade mirror with a simple white framed mirror, sort of like this one.
The white cabinet that is currently over the toilet is going to be replaced by some type of white open shelving, kind of like these. This room lacks storage, so I am hoping I can get more storage out of some larger shelves than I do from the small cabinet.
I have been very lucky in that Moen was kind enough to partner with me on this project and has donated all of the hardware for this room makeover. I received these products months ago, and they have been sitting in the garage just waiting for me to have time to get started! All of the products they were kind enough to send me are pictured below. I do have one dilemma though. The bathtub/shower in this room has a glass door, which is trimmed in polished chrome. We will not be replacing this.
In addition the shower faucets and hardware are polished chrome, and those will not be changed either. Moen did also send us a new shower head, but I had them send it in polished Chrome to match the rest of what is going on in the shower. So I need to find a way to mix the bronze and the chrome, and I haven’t quite figured that out yet. I am hoping I can find a solution with the lighting and new knobs on the vanity that will marry the two together a little more. Any suggestions on how to mix and match the two metal finishes? I’ll take them! And if you are wondering why I even use a shower curtain when I have glass doors, it is because although they do a great job at containing the water, I don’t exactly like the look of them. I like the softness and pop of color provided by a shower curtain. So it is purely decorative. And if the curtain is closed, you can’t see what is going on in the shower with the chrome at all.
I have already purchased a large basket that sits on the floor to hold towels. And as a matter of fact it is already being utilized in the room. Here it is.
I found this really cute rustic looking shelf that I would love to recreate possibly. It would be another way to add some cute and functional storage to the room. And I will be on the lookout for other art and accessories that will add interest and function to the room as well. I would like to find a really cute rug to use in front of the sink, and a nice soft bath mat for in front of the tub.
Lighting is one thing I am still considering. We will definitely be replacing the light over the sink, but I am very up in the air with what type of lighting to use. Here are some different lights I like, and I would love it if you would chime in with your opinions on this. Should I go with bronze, gold, chrome,, and what style? I am all over the place on this one, honestly! I would love to hear from some of you on this decision! I really like all of the ones I have pictured below, but they are so different, and I have not come to any type of conclusion as of yet.
So, these are the things that are swimming around in my mind when I go to bed at night! How about you? I have been dreaming up this makeover for what seems like a very long time, and my summer break is almost here, so I can’t wait to get started! I think the first thing I will work on is making over the vanity and sink, and then I will move on to painting the walls and applying the AirStone. What say you about all of the ideas I have shared here today? I plan to get started on this next month, and I will be sharing our progress, of course! I hope you will stick with me to see the final results!
