Harpers Ferry, WV

June 13, 2013 By Nicki Leave a Comment

I had the opportunity to go on a field trip with the 8th Grade Class at my school back in May.  We visited Harpers Ferry, WV.  I had never been there before, but I thought it was a lovely trip.  I took several pictures that I thought I would share with you today of this historic old town.  The first 6 of these pictures I got from the Internet because I did not capture any of these and I thought they were a great depiction of the area.

Harpers Ferry is an historic town in Jefferson Co., WV.  It is situated right where WV, VA, and MD meet.  Historically, Harpers Ferry is best known for John Brown’s raid on the Armory in 1859 and its role in the American Civil War.  The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) headquarters is located in Harpers Ferry and the town is one of only a few through which the Appalachian Trail passes directly.
The rest of the photos were taken by me.  And they are of the town of Harpers Ferry.

Several cute little shops going up this hill.  We even met a hiker who was hiking the Appalachian Trail.  He was from Germany and had hiked over 1,000 miles so far. I should have taken his picture!

This was a candy store that made the candy from the 1700’s- today.  They had the very first candy that had ever been made.  These were my purchases.  Rose Turkish Delight, Macaroons, and a caramel marshmallow.

This was the mantel in the candy store.  I was digging the old bottle collection.

I also purchased this mild glass boot for $14.99.  I showed it to you here.

Too bad this sign wasn’t for sale, because I would have bought it!

If you live near West Virginia, Maryland, or Virginia, visiting is a great day trip to go on!  The students enjoyed it just as much as the teachers did.  We had a great day.
