Making a Christmas Wreath Work for Valentine’s Day

February 7, 2013 By Nicki 6 Comments

I decided to make a couple of crafts for Valentine’s Day this year, even though I don’t usually do much in the way of decorating for Valentine’s Day. Today’s post is about making a Christmas wreath work for Valentine’s Day.   I have seen so many cute things on other blogs that I just could not resist doing something!  So I went to JoAnn’s Fabrics on Saturday morning and bought some supplies.  Here is what I bought:

I bought those flower’s at the dollar store.  I thought they were really pretty for fake peonies.  The sand, wood glue, mod podge and grey yarn were for other projects I am planning.  So basically all I used for these two projects were the little love heart, the pink yarn, the Styrofoam heart, and the ribbon.  The flowers were for another project I will show you soon.  I left my Christmas Wreath hanging when I took everything else down, because I knew I wanted to use  for Valentines Day as well, I just needed to tweak it a little bit.  But first I will show you my yarn heart.  This was so simple!  Actually, when I went to Joann’s, this is the heart I had in mind:

So, I go to Joann’s with this heart in mind, and then I realized that these little pom poms don’t come in a big bag of fuzzy pink!  (Well, they do come all in pink, but they weren’t available in my local store, but you can find them here).  They are multiple colors!  Why did I think I would be that lucky?  Do you know how many bags I would have had to buy to get this many pink pom poms?  WAY TOO MANY!!  So I needed an alternative.  I started browsing around and found yarn on sale for 40% off in a pretty pale shade of pink.  I decided to make a yarn heart.  simple, right?  Here is the finished product.

It was fairly simple.  I just wrapped the yarn around the heart, pulling the yarn tightly and holding it in place.  It probably took me about 45 minutes to complete.  I just tucked the ends under when I came to an end of the string of yarn.  I kept cutting it into very long strings because I found it was easier to work with this way.  I just kept wrapping until it was complete.  Voila!  Then I just used a small piece of the red burlap heart ribbon and attached it right at the top of my banister.  Cute!
Next, I got to work transforming my Christmas wreath into a Valentines Day wreath.  I love this wreath. I found it for a huge steal a couple of years ago at a store called Gabriel Brother’s.  I did a post about this store here.  All I did to transform this wreath was to add my vintage looking wooden heart and a heart bow! Here it is!

Isn’t it adorable?  Well, I think it is.  I love it!  So easy.  And the Valentines decor at Joann Fabrics was marked down to 50% off that day too, so it was cheap!

Do you decorate for Valentines Day?  I am not big on it, but I did just a few little things around here that made it seem sweet.  If you have done anything that you would like to share, please send me pictures and I will share it here!  I have one more little Valentines Day decoration that was super easy and cheap and I will show it to you in another post.  Have a great Thursday everyone!

Great idea to use your Christmas wreath for a Valentine one. Love the ribbon you added. Perfect.
