Do you remember the green dresser that used to be in this spot? It was in need of much love, but unfortunately it was just at the bottom of the list of things to do around here. It is also a mid-century modern style of dresser, but not the quality piece of furniture that this one is. If you would like to see it, you can click here and here to view our Master bedroom progression. Click here to read about my Goodwill lamp makeover and sconce makeover.
This dresser is substantially larger than the other one, so we did a little shuffling, and moved the chair that was sitting next to it across the room (see below). It also gave us more storage than we had before. I have so much more room in this dresser. You can click here to read about my DIY Chicken Wire jewelry frame, and here to read about my bamboo tray/earring holder. And I just posted about this slate serving tower that I am using as a jewelry station last week. Have you noticed the wicker dome shaped object on top of the hamper? It is a hanging pendant that I picked up at a consignment store, and it will eventually be hanging in our master bath. I haven’t decided yet whether I want to leave it in its natural state, stain it, or paint it.
This dresser is very solid and heavy. All I did to it was clean it up. It was still being used by LC’s grandmother when she passed. I left the original hardware on it because I like it. I wiped it down with Old English lemon oil and let it soak in. I do this with my wood furniture every few years. I also wiped inside of the drawers with a rag soaked in vinegar. This takes the old musty smell out of old furniture like this.
I thought since I was taking pictures of our new dresser, I would show you some other small updates in this room. I bought this afghan at a thrift store and thought it would go well on our bed.
And this is where the chair landed across the room. This chair was Amish made. Our master bedroom furniture is very matchy matchy, and a lot of wood. We will not be getting new furniture for this room. But I would like to find a way to still use this furniture but make it less matchy. Any suggestions? Every time I start thinking about what to do, my mind just goes blank. I don’t know where to start with it.
What do you think of our mid-century modern dresser? Do you have any mid-century furniture that you adore? I would love to read about it in the comments! Any suggestions for how I can break up the matchy-ness in our master bedroom while still using the same furniture we already have?
Have a great week!
