Being 40-ish, I am big on my skin care routine. Well, honestly I always have been, but more so now that I am starting to show my age. I think the best way to fight aging is to take super good care of your skin. And hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I thought it might be fun to share my skin care routine with you today. I am no expert, but I am frequently told that I don’t look my age. I hope the people who tell me that aren’t fibbing! My most problem area is my lip area, I am starting to notice fine lines above my lip, which I despise! I also do have lines on my forehead. Hate those suckers too! I also have a double chin which makes me want to puke. Thanks for that mom! I have very dry skin, so moisturization is the key for me. And don’t think for one second that I would not have some work done if I had the money. I would love to have some small tweaks here and there. The picture above is all of my beauty products, except for the Neutrogena facial soap and Buff Puff that I use in the shower, and the Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew anti puff eye roller. Also, I love Mary Kay products, and sometimes I have more Mary Kay products than I currently have, but once in a while I try something else out. Now is one of those times, but I always revert back to the Mary Kay because I heart it. So here is my daily routine, in a nutshell.
My morning routine:
I do not cleanse my face in the morning. But I do moisturize before I put on my makeup. In the spring months I use Jergen’s Natural Glow to moisturize. In the winter, I use Mary Kay’s Time wise. I am a huge fan of Mary Kay. Before I apply the moisturizer, I first use the eye roller on my under eye area to help with the bags I have under my eyes when I wake up. Those nasty bags appeared in the last year or so, damn them! Then I apply my Mary Kay triple action lip enhancer on the fine lines around my lips. After that I apply my moisturizer generously. After that it is makeup as usual. I love to wear makeup, maybe I will do another post about my makeup routine someday. I always wear a foundation or a tinted moisturizer, and concealer, even if I don’t wear anything else. In my younger days I went without these two products during summer, but I feel I need them as I get older. I have it down to a science, and after I have used my foundation and concealer you can’t really even tell I have on makeup, but I feel that my skin looks so much more flawless. I also use a hand moisturizer as one of the last things I do before leaving the house. If I wash my hands, I simply must moisturize them, no ands, ifs, or buts about it.
My night time routine:
This varies based on whether I take a shower or a bath at night. Obviously, I take a shower on the days I wash my hair, which is about 3-4 times per week. On the other days, I take a bubble bath. The first thing I do is remove my eye makeup with the Equate eye makeup remover. (I am planning on trying to make this on my own using a recipe that I pinned as soon as I run out of my current supply). I use a cotton round to remove my eye makeup. Just one. I use half of it for one eye and the other half for the second eye. I do not like to waste them! My daughter uses two or three, and it annoys me because I think it is so wasteful! So after I remove my eye makeup, I cleanse. When I shower, I use the Neutrogena face soap and a buff puff or a sponge. I rotate these every other time. When I take a bath, I use the Burts Bees Orange Essence facial cleanser. This is the one product that I would put above Mary Kay. I discovered it last winter, and I fell madly in love with it! It has the best orange scent, and it has a built in exfoliator, and it also warms as you apply it. Heaven in a tube! I remove the cleanser with a very hot, wet wash cloth. I also go over the eye area with the hot cloth, to remove any residue. Next, I apply the Mary Kay Triple action lip enhancer to my upper and lower lips. Now it is time for my eye cream. I cannot live without eye cream people! So very important! The one I currently have is in the small jar with the white lid in the picture. It is also Burts Bees, and it has royal jelly in it. The next thing I apply, is the Botanics Intensive Nourishing Serum. At my age, I need a serum! After that, I apply a heavy moisturizer. The one I am currently using is Jason Age Renewal. I do have to say, though, that although it does not irritate my skin, my daughter used it once and it burned her skin for some reason. The next thing I do at night is use my Posh sugar scrub on my lips. I am addicted to this stuff. It is an exfoliator and a moisturizer all in one, and it tastes yummy! And BTW, it is called make out magic! Ooh la la! I also use the Burts Bees lip balm religiously. I have to have something on my lips at all times. Another thing I do not have pictures is Vaseline. Usually, I coat my lips really well with it before bed, even putting it way above and below my lips area. I cannot go to sleep without stuff on my lips.
I think that about sums it up! I cannot stress enough how important skin care is to me. It is the basis for all things beautific! I hope you found this post helpful, or that it inspired you to try something new. I have found that I have liked every Burts Bees product I have tried so far, and I only recently started trying their products. I am not being paid to say any of this stuff, but I certainly would love to! Hello Mary Kay, call me! Burts Bees, are you there?
