Hey all! I am so excited today to share a huge change in our living room! I waited for over three years to finally have new furniture in this room, and it has finally happened! The room isn’t quite finished yet, but it is pretty darn close! We purchased this furniture over Labor Day weekend, and it just finally arrived a couple of weeks ago, and we love it! There was one problem, which I will get into as you read further, but for the most part, we are happy with our choice. I have lots of pictures to show you today, so let’s get this party started!
This is what our living room looked like from the same vantage point over the summer, just in case you are new around here. I know everyone loves a good before and after picture, right?
This sectional is the Chamberly sectional from the Ashley Furniture Home Store. You can buy it in different versions. We chose a sectional with what they call a cuddler on the right hand side. You can also purchase it with a chaise on either side. We tested it out in the store, and I fell in love with it. I originally had wanted a sofa with a chaise on one end. And that is what I would have purchased had we had the money three years ago. But as the years passed, I decided that I wanted more seating, I wanted a sofa that our whole family of 5 could get cozy on for movie nights, etc. I knew I wanted grey, and that didn’t change. I originally wanted a slipcovered sofa, like ones from Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn. But those weren’t in the budget. We could have purchased one from Ikea, but I was a little afraid that the quality wouldn’t be as good. So I decided to shop around locally for a sofa that I could actually sit on first.
As soon as I walked into the Ashley Furniture Home Store, I saw this sofa front and center, and I pretty much knew it would be mine from the start. I sat on it, hell I won’t lie, I took my shoes off and laid down and tested it out! Some things I liked about it were that the back cushions did not come off. The cushions on our last sofa were removable, and I was constantly trying to fluff them and they were a pain in my arse! So that was my number one requirement. My second requirement was the it had brackets to hold it together. Because the last sectional we owned was constantly sliding apart, and I wasn’t having that this time around. The seat cushions on this sofa can be flipped over, and I liked that feature as well.
You can see my Autumn banner here- it is something new that I added after I posted my Fall living Room tour. I purchased this burlap banner at the Dollar Spot at Target, and the letters are black burlap sticker letters that you can stick on and spell out whatever you choose. And the cute Pumpkin Pillow was purchased off of a friend who sell home décor- and I wish I could remember the name of the company. But let’s get back to the sofa. When it was finally delivered, and the delivery guys were putting it together, we discovered that it didn’t have brackets to hold it together. Needless to say that I was slightly furious, because I was assured it did. My husband immediately made an angry phone call to the store, and the sales guy was shocked to discover it doesn’t have brackets! They did make it right by ordering brackets, and they are sending someone out to install them. They aren’t installed yet, but I am happy with that solution. Otherwise, I was going to have them load it right back onto their truck. The brackets were a deal breaker for me.
I don’t love the cushions that came with, and there was no option to change them out. You can see the cushions that came with it here to the right and the left. They are nice pillows that are down filled, but the colors aren’t my jam. I have been experimenting with them to try to make them work, but I will probably eventually buy pillow covers for them that work better with my décor. The striped pillows and the furry ones were already mine, and you would have seen them in my Fall tour as well.
This sofa was large than I had bargained for. I guess it’s my fault for not measuring. I didn’t plan on it sticking out into the room as much as it did, so I decided to make it work because we aren’t going to live in this home for many more years, and hopefully it will be with us in our next home as well. My only solution was to place this end table on a slant, and it works just fine. Only problem is that we purchased a chair too, which I planned on putting right were the end table is. I could still place it next to the end table, but we both felt that it would close off the room too much. This picture is a good shot of my beloved gallery wall, and my vintage mid century modern record player that I made over last winter. The gallery wall has changed and evolved since I first posted about it, but I think that is how a gallery wall should be.
This leather coffee table is on it’s last days in our living room. It doesn’t work with the new sectional. I see a round coffee table in my future as soon as I find one. I think something round will work much better in this space. But for now, I am using what I have. Also, I purchased a big queen size grey fleece blanket to use on the sofa, but it is not pictured. I like to cover my sofa, and I like a big cozy blanket for people to use for naps. My kids are very messy, and a blanket helps keep the sofa clean. So on days when I am not taking pictures or we don’t have company, you will find a big blanket on the sofa. That’s just how I roll.
This is the chair we purchased. It is the Levon chair, also from Ashley Furniture Home Store. Right now it is hanging out next to the fireplace. but I am not in love with it here. One reason is that anyone who sits here feels out of the loop. I want this chair, or whomever sits here, to be a part of the conversation. And another reason is that it impedes the view of the fireplace too much. I want the fireplace to be more of a focal point, because I worked so hard to get it to this point. The Airstone surround and the rustic barn beam mantle were DIY projects that we completed about a year ago.
The small Give Thanks pillow is from Target Dollar spot, and the other two are pillow covers that I purchased at Amazon. You can find them here and here. Amazon has so many great pillow covers at great prices. I am thinking of doing some rearranging and moving the chair over next to my MCM record player, but I just haven’t had time to make the switch yet. The chair is very comfy, and I like the fun floral pattern.
In this picture, you can see the bats I added to the wall in the background. I made these two years ago, and last Fall I couldn’t find them to use them in my décor. but this year I did find them!
I place a few on the actual artwork as well. I thought that was a fun accent. They look like they are flying right off of the painting.
All in all, we are very happy with our purchases. I think this furniture will work for our family for years to come. and I am hoping that our next home will have a more open concept and this furniture will work in the space we have, maybe even better than it works here. For the first time since we moved here, there is room for our whole family to cozy up and watch a movie without tearing each other hair out. there was always someone fighting over where they were going to sit before. I have claimed the cuddler as my spot though, so when Mama is in the room, everyone better move over! There have been several naps taken here since we got the furniture, and everyone is giving it a thumbs up. It is a little on the firm side, but it is very deep, and big enough for two people to lie down if they want to. What do you think of our new furniture? Do you have any questions for me about it? I would be happy to answer in the comments!
Today, Mr. 15 Year Old’s cross country team is headed to Cabell-Midland for the state championship cross country meet. His team is the heavy favorite to win, and if they do it will make it the third year straight that they have brought home a state championship. Only the top seven runners on the team get to run tomorrow, and my son is one of them, so we are very proud and excited. We are headed there to spend the night this afternoon! Wish them luck! They are a great bunch of boys!

Hey! how is this sofa holding up after a few years? we were looking to buy it 🙂
Hi there! Our sofa is holding up great! No problems with it at all. We have a dog and we keep blankets on it most of the time so he won’t get it dirty. It is a firm cushion, which was a change from our last sofa, but we are used to it by now, and the sofa still looks great!
Where did you get that area rug? Looks great! We have the same sectional.
I got it years ago at Overstock. Here’s a link to some similar, they don’t sell that one anymore. https://www.overstock.com/shop/houndstooth-area-rug,/k,/results.html
Also curious how the sofa is holding up. How long have you had it now? I bought this sofa but just saw some not so great reviews about the back cushions not holding shape. Thank you for any info on it!
Ps- LOVE you’re gallery wall!!!
Hi Jenny! We have had out sofa for about three years. We have had no issues with the back cushions. We do have a dog that likes to lay on one particular back cushion, and I have noticed it is not holding it’s shape as well. But I think that will happen with a 20 lb. dog lying on it ALL THE TIME!! I can whip into shape for photos when needed, but we have accepted this as just part of having a dog and he likes to lie there and look out the window. Other than that one cushion, this sofa has held up incredibly well! We love it!
