No Place Like Home- Fall Home Tour

September 23, 2016 By Nicki

Eight different bloggers share their Fall home tour.Eight different bloggers share their Fall home tour.

Hey friends!  Today is an exciting day because I’m here today to share my Fall Home Tour with you! But not only my home tour, I have teamed up with six wonderfully talented bloggers and we are all sharing our Fall home tours today.  If you are visiting today from my dear friend Sherry over at Savvy Apron, welcome!  I am so thrilled to have you here, and I hope you will keep right on coming back!  Actually, this is just the first of so many wonderful blog hops we will be doing together, and I am just over the moon happy about it.  You may have heard me mention that I went to the Haven Conference in August, and this tribe of bloggers was formed from that conference.  We have so many plans and ideas to help and support each other, and to grow our blogs together, and today is just the beginning.  I have lots of pictures (more than usual) to share with you today for my Fall tour, and at the bottom of this post, you will find links to all of the other blogs who are also sharing their Fall tours today, so please make sure you click through to each and every one of them, because you are going to be wowed by the amazing talent of this wonderful group of women.

Shall we start the tour? Let’s start at the beginning, which is my entry.  I originally planned to start with the front stoop, but when I photographed this tour, there were no real pumpkins being sold in stores yet, so I decided to save that part for a later date.  If you are new to my blog, we live in a split level home that was built in 1996.  We have lived here for 4 years, and we are slowly but surely updating and renovating, and making this home ours.  And we have done it all on a pretty tight budget.  I love to scour around at thrift stores and yard sales, it is one of my favorite things to do and I love sharing with people how they can make their home something special with not a lot of money. Welcome to my entryway!  My daughter Delaney and Mr. 8 Year Old made me this Fall sign for my birthday.  I just love it!

I changed out the globes in the chandelier here a few months ago.  The ones that were there were really yellow looking and always bothered me.  So when I hung a new chandelier in our dining room, I took the white globes off of the old one and switched them into this chandelier.  Although it’s still not the light I would choose if I were to buy a new one, it was a big improvement.  We purchased this Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet a couple of years ago, and it has been a life saver for this small space.  You can read more about he evolution of this space here and here.

I love this free printable art that I printed out to hang over my shoe storage cabinet.  It was painted by Carol from the Red Painted Cottage, and she made it available for free for her readers.  She is also part of this home tour today and very talented, so be sure to see her Fall tour, and print out a blue pumpkin for yourself!  I found the little mint colored pumpkin at Walmart. The cute little argyle plate is from the Target Dollar Spot and it comes in a two pack.  The rustic looking lantern to the right is actually the old outdoor light that used to be on our front of our house.  I salvaged the glass part of it, and I have a mason jar sitting inside that is filled with a string of LED mini lights, and it makes a great little nightlight for our entryway.  Especially since there are no outlets anywhere in sight!  I painted the little white pitcher using white chalky paint.

This bookshelf sits right at the top of the stairs and can be seen from the front door.  The Autumn poster on the wall above was part of my decor last year as well, and was also a free printable that I had blown up into a subway print.  You can find the free printable here.  You can also read about how to blow up posters and photographs, like I did with this one, here.   I added the wrapping paper to the back of my shelves a few years ago, and I still love the way it looks this way.

If you turn right at the top of the stairs, you will be headed into the living room, and you will pass by the kitchen and the dining room on your way.  My dining room serves double duty as our home office, and it is not ideal, but we make it work.  I recently made over those two file cabinets you see in the dining room/office.  But for now, let’s move onto the living room!

I recently found this painting at Goodwill and thought it would make a great piece for my Fall decor. It was only a few bucks too!  As you can see in the right hand corner this painting is signed M. Urso. If any of you locals know who may have painted this, I would love you to comment to me about it! The dalmation is from LC’s grandmother, and he remembers it fondly from his childhood, so I love having it around for my children’s childhoods now.

My fireplace with the DIY AirStone surround and the rustic barn beam mantle is one of my favorite DIY projects to date and made a huge impact in changing the look and feel in our home.  It was originally just a black box in the wall, not even a mantle.  My collection of vintage suitcases is one of my favorite things in the room.  I bought the vintage tennis racket at a yard sale, and I recently purchased this curled wood wreath, and I love the way it looks hanging from the tennis racket.

I purchased the acorn garland last fall, and this year I added the leaves that I cut out using this metallic looking leopard print craft paper, and I love it!  I cut my leaves at work using a machine we have in our school.  But you can google leaf images and cut the shapes out with scissors as well.

Our living room is one of my favorite rooms in the house!  This room took a few years to get to this point, and you can read more about the transformation here, here, and here. This print of a Van Gogh painting was my inspiration for the entire room and I found it at a thrift store for $1!  I filled this wire basket with apples to bring in a natural touch, and I’m still sad to have no real pumpkins!

We purchased this chair last Fall along with the sectional you will see shortly.  It took over three years living here before we finally got new furniture!

I love this Fall arrangement!  I have had this large glass vase for years.  This year I filled the bottom with a bag of coffee beans and added some feathers and a few cattails.  I recently found the driftwood ball on clearance at Target.

Our TV stand is a vintage Mid century style record player that I made over, and it was a labor of love. It is one of my favorite pieces I own.

The watercolor painting you see here is yet another free printable that I printed out to use for my Fall decor.  Can you tell I am addicted to free printables yet?  This was painted by an artist named Jane Davenport, and was shared by Lucy at Craftberry Bush, who is a talented artist in her own regard.  I simply taped this art on top of the glass, there is a different piece of art that is inside of the frame, but I love this so much on the wall, I am probably going to put it inside the frame and keep it here.

The grandfather clock used to belong to my grandparents and is very special and sentimental to me.  I am the oldest grandchild, I consider myself lucky to have received this treasure.  I don’t think it is probably worth a lot of money, but sometimes the dollar amount is not what makes an item truly valuable.  This clock was a 25th anniversary gift to my grandparents from my father and his brothers and sisters.

And here is is the sectional I mentioned earlier.  I always seem to struggle with the pillows for this sofa, but I am loving the dusty rose and rust I recently added to the mix.  I also added the leopard print one you see tucked in there.  I have one more pillow I ordered that still has not arrived, but I think it will add the perfect touch!

I cut the apples you see in this banner from an old Swedish paperback book.  This is a store bought banner, and the letters are adhesive, but eh apples give the banner a more personal touch.

This glass coffee table is another purchase we made after we purchased the furniture and our old leather bench no longer went with the decor in here.  The green and white afghan was a Goodwill find for less than $5, and I just love the pop of color!

Mr. 16 Year Old bought me these flowers for my birthday, and he chose them because he knew I was decorating for Fall.  This lamp is something new that I haven’t shown on the blog.  I picked it up for practically nothing at a thrift store.  And the feather art is another free printable from Lucy at Craftberry Bush, I told you she was a talented artist!  I painted these acorns you see inside of the candle holder, and added in some vintage wooden spools.

I love adding feathers for an Autumn touch, and it is so easy, just plop them into any type of vessel!

Next up is my kitchen.  I only added a few touches of Fall in here.  This room is still a work in progress, but I have painted the cabinets and the island, and I added the legs to the island last winter. I also painted the faux subway tile backsplash and still love the way it turned out.  I also added some fresh pears and apples in here, and I love the color of the pears for Fall.

LC brought these vintage scales home to me from Mayberry Days in NC.  He and his father have travelled there many times, and they are Andy Griffith nuts.  Andy is literally watched in our house on a daily basis, and I am not teasing about that!  The little copper wire basket is an Anthropologie find from our trip to LA, and it is perfect for fresh fruit!  We don’t have that store where I live, so I always go into one whenever I see one.  And I always try to find at least  one little treasure to bring home with me.  The little sugar bowl you see was something I inherited from my great grandmother, and I actually have her whole set of this china and no place to display it right now.  But I like that I can at least have the darling little sugar bowl out.

The little green chalkboard you see propped up on the mirror is part of my swag I brought home from haven.  I attended a workshop with Marian from Miss Mustard Seed ( she has an incredible line of milk paint and is just the sweetest most down to earth person!) and we painted these little blocks of wood.  Being able to attend her workshop was such a thrill to me as I have been following her blog for years.  And she did not disappoint!  She was also one of the keynote speakers at Haven and did a fantastic job!  The mirror was red when I bought it, and I painted it white a while ago.  I also made the DIY no sew cafe curtains in the kitchen.  I bought my mug tree after I made over this vintage bar cart for the kitchen.  Keeping my mugs out like this freed up some much needed cabinet space.  And in case you are wondering what that black thing is next to the white mirror, it’s a land line!  Do you remember those?  Well, we still have one, and will continue to as long as we have children at home.

Last but not least is my dining room/office.  This room has changed a lot since we moved in.  We just added this new area rug a few weeks ago, and this is the first time I am showing it on the blog.  I won’t say too much about it today because I am planning to write a separate post all about it.  But isn’t it so pretty?  The chandelier was a $15 yard sale find that I spray painted.  Love love love it!  I have to say I am over the green in this room.  But I also refuse to paint it until I have painted at least every room in this house once!  And I chose this color and painted it this way 4 years ago.

The framed drawing on the back wall is actually a bank in Clarksburg, WV near where I grew up and was given to us by LC’s aunt.  I framed it myself.

The centerpiece I added to the table is probably my favorite part of my Fall decor.  I plan to tell you more about it in another post as well.  But something like this is just so simple and easy to do, not to mention affordable and super cute!  The marble and granite looking pumpkins and the amber bottles are a recent purchase from the Target Dollar Spot,  so are the plaid leaves you see lying on the table, and I am obsessed with shopping there, seriously cute stuff!  All the time!  The plaid table runner was a birthday gift from a local store here in town.

My buffet is a great place to decorate for the changing seasons.  I have my trusty DIY burlap wreath hanging on my mirror for Fall, and this was the very first wreath I ever made!

The vintage vanity case was a yard sale find and I painted it with white chalky paint and tucked the burlap inside of it.  Many of the items on this buffet are from my thrifting adventures.
