No Place Like Home For Thanksgiving

October 28, 2016 By Nicki 1 Comment

No Place Like Home Thanksgiving

Hey friends!  The gals of No Place Like Home have a treat for you today, and it’s all things Thanksgiving!  You will find everything Thanksgiving inspired from decor to recipes, so don’t forget to click through and visit everyone’s blogs and see what Thanksgiving goodness they have to share with you too.  As for me, I have my old faithful burlap wreath all decorated for Thanksgiving, and at the bottom of this post I am sharing my family recipe for Stuffing.  It is the stuffing recipe that has been handed down for generations and my favorite stuffing in all of the land.  And it brings back happy memories of a lifetime of Thanksgiving holidays spent at my Granny’s house every year when I make it for my own family feast.

Have you ever met my DIY burlap wreath before?  This is one of the very first projects I ever made when I began blogging four years ago, and it is still going strong.  As a matter of fact I love it so much that I chose to share it on our local news!  Last Sunday I taped four segments for a local news station-WBOY- and I share four projects that will be aired once per week every week in November, and this burlap wreath is one of them.  I will be showing people how they can make one of their own. This was both a scary and exciting experience for me, and if you live in the WBOY viewer area, I hope you have a chance to catch these.  I will make sure to announce on the blog when I know the exact times they will air.

My very favorite thing about a burlap wreath is how versatile and neutral it is.  It is an excellent back drop for most any type of decor you want to attach to it, and I decorate this puppy in so many different ways.  It has held up fabulously over the years, and I have never tired of it at all.

One of my secrets for decorating wreaths is to purchase some bouquets of flower or greenery arrangements from your local craft store.  I used three different bouquets for this particular wreath decor.  One with the orange billy balls, two bouquets of the tiny rust colored flowers, and one bouquet of the swirly green and orange things.  I take the bouquets apart using snippers and then I can work each individual stem in wherever I want it.  I find it is cheaper to purchase bouquets than to buy individual types of flowers or greenery

I am completely smitten with how this Thanksgiving burlap wreath turned out!  It will be hanging over our buffet this year for Thanksgiving dinner at our home.  I have been hosting Thanksgiving dinner for 6-7 years for my family, and it has become Mr. 16 year old’s favorite holiday.  He loves the whole tradition of it.  We spend the day before preparing certain dishes ahead of time, and the kids love to help with this part.  And then on Thanksgiving morning, he and LC always run in a local 5K called the Turkey Trot.  Meanwhile, Delaney and I are working away from an early hour getting prepared for our feast.  Usually it’s just my parents, my daughter’s boyfriend, and maybe a friend or two who doesn’t have family nearby to get together with.  But we are so thankful that this year my sister and her children are coming home, so we are excited for that, and now we need to make more food than usual!

My favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is always the stuffing, and I have been eating the same exact stuffing for my entire life.  It’s one of those dishes that my Granny and my mom have always just known how to make, and I have the basics of it scribbled down on a sticky note, and I use this sticky note each year to create my stuffing that tastes just like my Granny and mom always made.  But they never used a recipe, they just made it.  So I have done my best to create a recipe for you from my scribbled notes, and trust me when I say this stuffing is perfection!  Just click on the link below the picture to go to the recipe and print it out.
