I am so excited to share my polished casual Autumn living room with you today!  I really wanted to give this room an overhaul when it comes to my Fall décor this year.  When I got down my boxes of Fall décor from my attic this year, I was uninspired.  We all have those boxes of seasonal décor that we pull out year after year, am I right?  And each year, I add one or two things to my collection, but not too much honestly.  I had been using the same stuff for year after year, and this year, that same stuff just wasn’t cutting it for me.  So I made some updates and changes to this room that have made me fall in love with Fall in my living room this year!  I will share even more details of this room when I post my Fall Home Tour, so today I have focused on the updates and new items I purchased with the help of Big Lots.  You can find Part 1, 2, and 4 of our Fall home by clicking on each number.

We have made leaps and bounds with our fireplace wall since this time last year!  We installed an Airstone fireplace surround, which completely changed the look of this room, but I had been wanting a statement piece to hang over the mantle, and I finally found the perfect mirror at Big Lots!  This mirror is something that can remain over my mantle, and is the perfect anchor and will work throughout every season of the year.  This is a picture of the same spot last Fall.  Huge improvement, don’t you agree?

This gorgeous mirror was exactly what I had been looking for, yet couldn’t afford.  When was the last time you shopped at Big Lots for Home Décor items?  It is less than 5 minutes from my house, and I love to shop there for Home Décor.  Every time I go, they have something different, and you can’t beat their value prices and quality home décor items.  I love the juxtaposition of this rustic barn beam mantle, the stone surround, and the gold frame of the mirror.  And I also love the shape of the mirror over this fireplace.  I love to mix design styles.  I call my design style modern, eclectic, polished casual.  And ever since I defined my design style, I have been working towards it in all areas of my home.

I also picked up the silver mirrored looking antlers and the gold candle holder at Big Lots.  The antlers were actually in with the Christmas Décor that they already have out on the shelves.  But antlers are really hot right now, and who says they are just for Christmas?  I think they are great all year around.  And I love them here on my mantle mixed with the other gold accents.  And the candle holder doesn’t have to be just for a candle, it can hold pretty much anything you want to fill it with, so don’t limit yourself!  I do have a candle in it for now because I wanted some candle light up here.

You will see very soon that I have a lot of color in my living room for Fall, so I decided to keep my mantle neutral.  It gives the eye a place to rest, in a way, from the color going on in the rest of the room.  And what a lovely spot this is to rest my eyes!

And how cute is this acorn garland?  I just hung it using a few straight pins so as not to have any noticeable holes in my mantle.

This is the view of our living room from the dining room.  This room has come such a long way since we moved into this house you guys!  And I am so excited about where it is headed.  I was hoping to have our new furniture we ordered in time to decorate for Fall, but it has not arrived yet.  I was not about to let that stop me from making this room ready for Fall though.  And when it does arrive, it will work with everything else in the room, so it will be an easy transition.

This is a similar view of this room from last Fall.  Wow, I can’t believe how much has changed!  And we aren’t finished yet, woo hoo!

This gallery wall I created in our living room is honestly my pride and joy.  I love it so much!  And I equally love the Mid Century Modern record player that I painted, and am currently using as a TV stand.  This colorful and collected gallery wall provides a distraction from the black box that is our TV screen, it just kind of blends into the background, surrounded my loveliness.

Here is a shot of this same spot at this time last year.  Can you believe it is even the same room?  So much has changed in the past year.  Looking back at this makes me feel great, because I can see my vision just coming to life right on the screen!

This thrifted Van Gogh print was my inspiration for this entire room, and I paid 50 cents for it you all!

I found these lovely neutral acorns at Big Lots as well.  They are wrapped with jute, and the tops are shimmery.  They also have strings so you could hang them from some rustic branches if you wanted to.  I decided they were perfect filling this hurricane.  This is actually not a vase, but I am using it as one.  Sometimes you have to think outside of the box!  Since I have so much color happening on this wall, I like the neutral acorns in this spot.

This is the same spot at this time last year.  I really liked this vignette but I like this year’s version so. much. better!  I can really see my design skills getting better as I learn more about decorating and design and photography.  It gives me hope for this little blog.
fall-2014-4
This is the top of our TV stand, and I am loving it as well!  I am so thrilled with how everything has turned out in this room for Fall.  It just makes me smile every time I walk into this room.

Don’t count out using natural elements, like the apples I have placed here on my TV stand.

I love this copper colored glass vase I scored at Big Lots, and I just popped in a single sunflower and it looks great!  I also filled my painted lantern with pine cones, some neutral vase fillers, and a few of my fabric covered balls that I made last Spring.  I only used the ones that had orange in them, the rest got packed away until next Spring.  Copper is really hot right now, and I love the look of mixed metallics in a room, it adds interest and contrast.  I will be using this copper vase in so many different spots for a long time to come.

You may have seen this spot in my living room just last week when I showed you my newly framed and matted Stockholm print for Trashtastic Tuesday.  But even my sofa looks different since then, thanks to the furry decorative pillows I also picked up at Big Lots!  I was amazed at the selection they had of decorative pillows.  So much to love that I had a hard time deciding.  But I settled on these two furry pillows because they were neutral, they were cozy, and I knew they would warm things up perfectly for both Fall and Winter, plus they will look awesome on our new sofa when it arrives!

I love the mix of the cream furry pillows with my back and white striped one, and it just draws you right in to sit down and relax.  And the plaid cozy blanket really adds to the whole sofa.  I love to have throws lying around in the Fall so people can feel free to grab one and snuggle up!
big-lots-living-room-update-32
This is the same sofa from this time last year.  Bland and boring, and not really much coziness.  This just goes to show you what some great decorative pillows can do for a sofa!  Pillows are something that are so easy to change to give a completely different look to a sofa or a chair.  I will be using my furry pillows for a long time to come!
fall-2014-5
This chair is another thing that is about to go, but I do have to say, I will  miss it.  It is so comfy (it is my spot), and I spent many a day and night snuggling Mr. 7 Year Old in this chair when he was a tiny baby.  So it will be hard to say goodbye!  You can see some other parts of my Fall living room in this shot, and I will show you more up close and personal pictures of those areas for my Fall Home Tour.

I just had to show you one more find from my recent trip to Big Lots, this cute burlap pumpkin.  They had a huge supply of these adorable pumpkins in many different fabrics.  And I have to say, I was tempted to get them all!  #somebodystopme  I honestly put at least 5 of them in my buggy, and had to end up restraining myself.
big-lots-living-room-update-35
I ended up settling on the little burlap one because it was neutral, and again, I have a lot of color going on in this space, so this is one spot where I kept things more subdued.

I want to give a huge shout out to Big Lots for making these Autumn updates in my living room possible.  I have always been a Big Lots enthusiast (see the awesome chairs I bought there in the spring), so I was super excited for this opportunity, and to show all of my readers just what great things you can find at Big Lots when it comes to Home Décor.  So if you have a local Big Lots and have not shopped there lately, get your butt in gear and go!  They have a wide array of quality furniture and Home Décor, and their inventory is constantly changing (styles and assortment vary by store).  Stay tuned for the rest of my Fall Home Tour, hopefully later this week!
