Hey friends! I am so happy to finally say that Spring is officially here! Are you with me on this? It has turned cold again here in West Virginia, but my spirits are still high because I know it’s only gonna get better from here on out. I am excited to share the second part of my Spring tour with you today. Welcome to my living room! A lot has changed in this room in the past year, so I have really fallen in love with this room, and aside from me possibly painting a few of the side tables, this room is pretty much finished. If you are new to Sweet Parrish Place, I have included lots of links throughout this post so that you can click on them and see the progression of my living room. Just fair warning, this post has lots of Pictures today, as most of my home tour posts do, so I hope you enjoy! I am so glad you are here!
We started my Spring home tour last week with my Spring Entryway, and today we start right at the top of the stairs, and this picture below is what you see when you come to the top of the stairs. I recently added the words above the door that leads to the kitchen. I like it because you can see them right when you enter our home. The DIY LOVE canvas on top of the bookcase is a project I did last winter. I made it for Valentine’s Day, but I think it is OK to have out for all seasons.
I made a collage of some close ups of the bookshelf decor to cut down on the amount of pictures in this post to scroll through. The two pitchers on the top shelf and the glass insulator were recent Goodwill finds. We stopped at a Goodwill in Maryland on a recent road trip, and I scored several fabulous things. I have a small Willow Tree collection that I recently moved from downstairs to upstairs. The wooden bowl and the white bowl you see were also Goodwill finds from the same store, and the candle holder on top of the bookcase is one I have had for years, but I decided to give it a coat of white chalk paint for Spring. You can’t really tell, but it had some gold on the original finish, and when I sanded the chalkpaint down, you can see the shimmery gold peeking through, and it looks really pretty!
After you top the stairs, you turn right into our living room, and the first thing you will see is our fireplace. This fireplace is probably the biggest transformation we have done in the house. It was basically just a box in the wall when we moved in, no mantle and no surround. This transformation added the most character to our living room.
I kept the mantle really simple for Spring. The glass hurricanes and the white planter were left over from our Winter mantle. I just added some white hydrangeas and a couple of blue chargers, and the bunny garland, which I will be writing a separate post about later this week. My vintage suitcases were collected over time. One of them was sitting out on the curb on garbage day, and I snatched it. The tennis racket on the wall is a vintage tennis racket that we picked up at a yard sale last summer.
I found this wood slice on the side of the road while walking to our car after a cross country meet one day last Fall. So it was free, and I love it! The little orange glass pedestal you see is from Jason’s grandmother who passed. We have so many little treasures around to remind us of her, she was such a sweet lady and is very missed. The teacup and saucer sitting on top of it was the china that I registered for when I got married back in 1992. It was the only piece I received, and so I decided recently to use it in my decor. It is Mikasa- antique lace pattern, and I really love the pattern and simplicity, still to this day, and would love to have the entire set! I might have to start collecting it!
A new addition that you haven’t seen before on the blog is our new coffee table. If you follow me on Instagram, I have shown it, but I don’t think I have shown it on the blog. I found this coffee table on Pinterest, and it was exactly what I was looking for. I knew I wanted something round, and I love the glass top. It is such a welcome change from the bulky leather bench we had here before. The round shape fits so much better with our new sectional, and it really visually opens up the space too. You can see our old coffee table by clicking here. It worked for us until we bought this new sectional in the Fall, and then it just didn’t work anymore.
I have been enjoying decorating this open window type space above the sofa lately. For Spring, I added the floral wreath, and then I made this bird garland using some bird templates that I printed out and traced onto some glittery copper colored card stock paper. After I cut the bird shapes out, I hot glued them to some strands of jute, one bird on each end of a twelve inch piece of jute. I hung a long piece of jute across the top of the window, and then just draped the twelve inch strands with the bird on them over the jute that was going across. It is a difficult space to photograph, but they look really sparkly and pretty and delicate in person. The green afghan on the sofa was also a Goodwill find from a couple of years back. I just love the color and the pattern on this afghan.
This end table vignette turned out to be my favorite of all this Spring. I love the yellow with the black and white stripes. I am currently on the lookout for a larger lamp for this end table that will coordinate with the lamp on the other end table. But I haven’t found the perfect lamp just yet. The small black and white striped pitcher was purchased at the Target Dollar Spot. I find somethign I love there every time I go! The silver tray is another recen Goodwill find, and I love the way it looks layered under my glass candle holder that my daughter bought me at the Yankee Candle Store a few years ago. I filled it with these wooden eggs for Spring. I wrapped the books underneath the lamp with some wrapping paper that I found at Marshalls. I made the white pom poms you see wrapped around the tall vase, and you can read the tutorial for how to make them here.
I don’t know about you but I always have a difficult time decorating my coffee table. It took me lots of trial and error to come up with this vignette in the wicker tray this Spring. I found the lemons at the same Goodwill in MD recently, and I love them in this glass vessel. I also found the small platter layered underneath the oversized glasses there. Until I added that platter, this vignette did not feel right, but when I tried adding it, it suddenly felt right. It has a pretty floral pattern on it.
My gallery wall is quite simply one of my favorite walls in our home. I put this together over time, and I blogged about the process here. I’m still tweaking it, believe it or not, but I am in love with it. Teh most recent addition to my gallery wall is the letter P. I purchased a cheap unfinished letter at Walmart, and I used mod podge to add this pretty yellow patterned paper to the face of the letter. The DIY bookpage wreath is something I made last winter, and still love it just as much as the day I hung it. I found the Mid Century Mod record player that I am using as a TV Console at Goodwill for $25 and transformed it, you can read all about it here.
I painted the green arrow several months ago to add to the wall. And I also painted that mason jar you see below a couple years ago.
You may remember last summer when I shared the collection of jars and bottles that I painted to mimic beach glass. These were just random glass jars that I had collected over time, and I painted them all the same to make them look like a collection. I love the way they turned out. I also love them grouped together on this silver tray that was a thrift store find. The tray also got a little refresh last summer. The floral art in the gold frame was my inspiration for my entire living room, and it is a treasure to me. You can read all about it here. If you notice in the picture above, I made those fabric balls last Spring, and I just plopped them into this lantern this year.
I have a third part of my Spring Home Tour that I will hopefully have for you before Easter. I will be sharing my dining room and a couple of other Spring touches in our home. And I am already working to bring you a Spring fashion post with all of the trends for Spring fashion, so I hope you will come back and visit very soon! Thank you so much for joining me on my Spring Home Tour today, and I hope you have a blessed Monday!
