If you aren’t a fan of short shorts, then you might like these tips for how to style bermuda shorts 3 ways.
Hey friends! Today I am here to advocate for bermuda shorts. I wore lots of bermuda shorts several years ago, but they kind of disappeared from stores. And then while shopping in New York City over the summer, I found a pair that I really loved and decided it was time to bring bermuda shorts back. So this is my meager attempt to turn you back onto bermuda shorts with 3 ways to style them.
Being of the 40 something generation (eeeeeeek!!) and being a mother to three children, one of whom is a 22 year old daughter, I am not trying to dress like her. Are you Mamas out there feeling me? I see so many of these youngins out and about with their tushes hanging out of their shorts, and it makes me want to scream! What I’m saying may be controversial, but it’s just my personal opinion. No one needs to see your butt cheeks in a pair of shorts. And my daughter is as guilty as they come, let me tell you. But being that she is 22 years old, my opinion really doesn’t matter anymore. The days are gone when I can march her back into her bedroom and make her change. And I don’t mind short shorts, as long as your assets are covered. But I can preach all day, and my opinion really matters very little, now doesn’t it? It’s like the whole leggings are not pants controversy. Some people think your assets should be covered when wearing leggings, and some don’t. Can you guess which side I’m on?
Enough griping, let’s move onto these bermuda shorts I purchased recently, and let me show you three ways I have styled them. You know, just in case you aren’t sure how you would wear them or what looks good with them. This post might help you get jump started and inspire you to go out and get yourself a pair. And at the bottom of this post, I have already did some online shopping and I have several different pairs of bermuda shorts to choose from. Just click on the photos and it will take you straight to the store where you can purchase them.

Bermuda Shorts option | Ruffle neck tank | sandal option | Necklace | Straw Bag option
I found these distressed denim bermuda shorts in Lucky Brand store on the clearance rack, and it was instant love! It has been several years since I had worn a pair of bermuda shorts, but the raw hem on these were just calling my name for some reason. And I really liked the relaxed fit. I feel like these are even slightly longer than a traditional bermuda short, which I really liked. And let me tell you, I have worn these things so many times since buying them, so I certainly did not waste my money, that is for sure!
For this first outfit, I have styled my bermuda shorts with this tank that has the cutest ruffle detail around the neckline and a pair of flat sandals. I decided to knot the tank because it was looking a little boxy. I have also worn this tank with a half tuck, all the way tucked in, or just hanging loose. It depends on what I am pairing it with. This outfit could easily transition to fall with the addition of a cardigan, a pair of sneakers or booties, and a different bag.
Tip for knotting your tops
I wanted to give you a little tip for knotting your tops. I personally like the trend, and it works well if you feel like you just need to define your waistline a little, or maybe the shirt is feeling a little too baggy. Some people shy away from knotting their tops because it can stretch them out. So here is a little trick I do when I knot a top. Instead of actually tying a knot in the fabric, just pull it like you would to knot it, and then instead of actually tying a knot, pull the material into a messy bun, like you do with your hair. And then take a clear elastic and wrap around it. If you look closely at the photo below, I edited it to zoom in on my knot, and you can see the clear elastic. but it isn’t something anyone would ever notice unless I pointed it out. And it doesn’t stretch your top nearly as much.
Nxt up, I styled my bermuda shorts with a linen peasant top and a pair of neutral wedges. I’m a fan of peasant tops because they hide a lot of evils. I chose to just let this top hang naturally. And the neutral wedges go with so many things. I can’t link to the exact ones because I’ve had them for a few years. But a neutral wedge is a great addition to any wardrobe. Of course, this outfit can also be easily transitioned to fall. I’m thinking maybe an olive colored military type of jacket and a pair of booties would look good with this outfit.

Lastly, I wanted to style my bermuda shorts with a pair of white converse. I think these sneakers are great for most seasons, except for maybe the dead of winter when there is snow on the ground. I threw on a white V neck tee, with a front tuck. I added a leather belt because it just felt like something was missing. This tee is quite long, so it is a great tee to do a knot in too.
I feel like this outfit can be worn in early fall too because I’m pairing it with sneakers and a cardigan. But if you want to go a step further, you could pair it with any cardigan that might have more of a fall color or feel. And maybe add a pair of darker colored sneakers or booties. I have a pair of black sneakers that would look really cute with these too.

Have you noticed the monogram necklace I am wearing with all three of these outfits? It’s my new favorite! You can see it really well in the below photo. I just think it is to die for! It is from a new website I discovered called oNecklace, and they have the cutest jewelry that you can personalize. My necklace is the large monogram pendant necklace in sterling silver with an 18 inch box chain. This is a classic piece that is such good quality! If you sign up for their email list, you can 10% off of your order.
And while I’m sharing my new necklace, I can’t forget to show you the cutest ring I also got from oNecklace. It’s called the Tree of Life ring, and I’m so smitten with it! I got it in 24K gold plate, and it is such an easy ring to wear. It goes with virtually anything. Love, love love it! Here’s a quick photo of me wearing this ring. It also comes in sterling silver and rose gold, as does the necklace.

Good to “see” you Nicki! those shorts were a great buy! I love the raw hem and the looser fit. I don’t like anything tight. Love the style with the pink shirt and your long cardi looks very pretty with it!
