This is a great idea for a teacher gift, to make handmade pom poms and attach them to wonderful smelling candles.
Hi all! I have a fun and thoughtful gift idea to share with you today that includes fragrances that are reminiscent of Christmas, and some DIY pom-pom snowballs. Christmas is that time of the year when we all have a never ending list of people to shop for and show our appreciation for. We always give gifts to our children’s teachers to thank them for all they do for our kids, the people we care about most in this world. I am certainly appreciative of all of the time and care they dedicate to my child, and honestly, I don’t know what I would do without them! My children are entrusted to their guidance and care almost every day. I will be showing you a step by step tutorial below for how you can make some pom-pom snowballs as well!
Walmart is now carrying a whole new line of American Home™ by Yankee Candle® products brand that I just adore! I love to smell candles, and there are so many wonderful fragrances to choose from! These candles are now available at Walmart stores and online at Walmart.com. This winter morning fragrance is one of my favorites, and it put me in the mindset of the warm glow of sunrise against a blanket of snow. They also have fragrance wax cubes that you can put in candle warmers. I love the fresh balsam fir fragrance, and it would be great to use in a warmer at Christmas to make your home smell like fresh greenery from a Christmas Tree. Since we don’t have a real tree, this is the perfect compromise!
The apple cinnamon is another of my favorites. I am a sucker for the fragrance of cinnamon, and this fragrance includes a spicy blend of apple cider with cinnamon, cloves and wedges of orange and lemon. Perfect for the holidays!
Have you ever tried to make pom-poms? I am calling these one snowballs, because the white yarn makes them look just like snow balls, and I think they would be just so cute to make a big bunch of them and just pile them into a pretty bowl or basket. They would also look great hanging on a Christmas tree. I made four of them (only two are pictured), and I am going to tie them around each candle to add a little handmade touch to the candles and give them to my son’s two teachers at his after school program called joyful Noise. All you need to make some fluffy pom pom snowballs is white yarn and a pair of really sharp scissors. I used big fluffy white yarn for this project. and trust me on the sharp scissors. If your scissors are not sharp enough it will not go as well. I made a step by step graphic below that will show you exactly what to do to make your snowballs.
1. Place the beginning of your yarn in the palm or your hand.
2. wrap around and around your fingers. The more fingers you wrap the yarn around, the bigger your snowballs will be. I wanted mine big so I used all four fingers.
3. Cut another piece of yarn about 12 inches long, and with your palm facing up, shove the piece of yarn from under your hand, up through your middle and ring fingers.
4. Tie the beginning of a knot. Make sure you are tying all the way around the yarn that is wrapped around your fingers- under and over.
5. Remove the yarn from your fingers, and finish off the knot, making it as tight as possible. You will have what kind of looks like a bow tie with loops of yarn on each side.
6. Cut through all of the loops on each side with scissors.
7. Trim off the excess until it is a nice round ball. Keep trimming until you like the way it looks.
8. Have a snow ball fight with your yarn snowballs- enjoy!
Aren’t they just a ball of white fluffy cuteness? I love them almost as much as all of the wonderful fragrances of the American Home™ by Yankee Candle® products brand!
You can find these wonderful fragrant candles at Walmart store in the candle aisle. I also found them in the Christmas shop as well. And if you don’t live near a Walmart (really?), you can find them at Walmart.com. I purchased the 19 oz. large jar candles at they are a great price at only $14.93. You would pay much more than that for a lot of candles. And they smell so good you all! I have a feeling I will be purchasing many more of these because we are a candle loving family! When I clean my house, one of my favorite things to do when I am all finished with a room is to light a candle. It is like a little fragrance reward to myself for a job well done.
Mr. 7 Year Old is excited to give these American Home™ by Yankee Candle® products brand, along with the pom-pom snowballs! What unique gift idea have you thought of to gift a special teacher in your child’s life? Have you seen the new American Home™ by Yankee Candle® products brand in stores yet? If so, what is your favorite fragrance?
