Tiered Tray–Three Ways

November 3, 2014 By Nicki 3 Comments

DISCLAIMER: This post was created as part of a collaboration with UncommonGoods.  As Always, all of the opinions, thoughts, and ideas in this post are my own.

Hey all!  So, back in September, I was thrilled to be contacted by UncommonGoods suggesting that I partner with them to review an item of my choice from the website to review!  Have you ever shopped there?  Well, unfortunately for me, I had not.  But I was thrilled when I started really shopping the website to make my selection, because there was just so much that I loved. Making choices is so hard!

I was very impressed when I started reading about the UncommonGoods Website.  UncommonGoods is headquartered in Brooklyn, NY, and is a privately owned retailer that features unique designs and hand crafted gifts that are created without harm to animals or people.  Their mission is to support and provide a platform for artists and designers.  and almost 1/2 of what they sell is handmade!  Most products they carry are made in the USA, and 1/3 of their collection includes recycled/upcycled materials.  Now, that, my friends, is a retailer I can get behind!  How about you?

There were so many things I would have loved to have, but I finally decided on this gorgeous slate serving tower.  I chose this item because I was immediately struck by the versatility of it.  Even before I completed my order, I was already formulating the idea in my head of showing you how you could use this tray in various ways, in various rooms throughout your house.  The first way I decided to use the tray was as jewelry organization in my master bedroom. (If you are a regular follower of my blog, you  might notice something new in my bedroom, do you know what it is?)

You might also remember the DIY tiered jewelry tray that I made for my bedroom to hold jewelry.  I still love that tray, I promise!  But this slate tower was just screaming to hold my jewelry!  And I love it in my bedroom.  This serving tower is very substantial and sturdy, it just feels expensive and high quality (unlike most of my jewelry, ha!).  And the dark slate makes the perfect backdrop to show off some of my baubles and bling.

Adding a jewelry tray like this to my life has made a tiny part of my life easier.  I utilize my tray on a daily basis.  When I come home from work and take off my jewelry, this is where it lands.  I would say I usually have 2-3 outfits worth of jewelry housed here.  It serves as a holding spot until I have time to put it away.  But spreading it all out on this tray doesn’t make it seem messy, like I am just tossing my jewelry down.  It makes it seem much more purposeful than that!  Which is what I adore about this idea.  So if you don’t have a spot like this for your jewelry, I urge you- GET ONE!

I also loved this tray in my master bathroom (which is undergoing a renovation, so excuse the messed up wall from where I removed my old backsplash).  I think it looks really great on my counter holding mine and my husband’s smell goods!  It contrasts perfectly with my counter top.

I have read that you should never store your perfume or cologne in the bathroom because the heat and humidity ruin the scent.  But I have to say- I have been storing ours in our bathroom for years, and I find that not to be true at all.  I have never thought the smell of any of my scents has been compromised.  That is just my personal experience, so store it in your bathroom at your own risk!  I love all of the pretty glass pedestal jars that I have collected recently from thrift stores and yard sales.  And I love the slate tower sitting here keeping them company.

Not all of our bottles would fit on this tray, some were too tall.  So I also added my Tiffany powder (smells dreamy) and a little granite box that holds perfume samples.  I have to say my favorite perfume is Chanel Chance.  But I like to switch around between several perfumes.  What is your favorite scent?

And of course, you can use it as a serving center for entertaining!  Mr. 6 Year Old and I spent a nice Saturday at home over the weekend, and we made chocolate chip cookies and rented The Addams Family.  So I decided to show you how you could set up the tower to hold cookies and hot chocolate K cups.  Perfect for having friends over this fall to play in the leaves or the snow, and they can come inside and have cookies and a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

Are you craving a cookie yet – a cup of hot chocolate maybe?  Cookies don’t last long around here, especially chocolate chip!

This tray is a great addition for someone who entertains a lot.  Food wise, you can put virtually anything on it.  It could hold fruit, cheese, cupcakes, pretty much anything your heart desires.  I just used what I had on hand, which was cookies!

I have to say, I love the item I chose!  I love the contrast of the natural looking slate with the wood.  This piece is something that I will keep for many years to come, maybe forever.  I highlighted only threes uses for it here today, but I can think of even more, so when I tire of it in one spot of my house, I can change up the location and use for it.  Or, I can just put it away and get it out whenever we entertain. If you have never shopped UncommonGoods, I highly reccommend you click one of the many links I have provided and check out the large variety of offerings.  What a great place to do some Christmas shopping!  If you are looking for a uniquely special gift for someone you love, you just might find it!  And if you are anything like me, you will find a little something that you want too!
Thank you to UncommonGoods for making this post possible, and for sending me this awesome serving tower!  Now, I would love to know- of the three ways I used this tray, what is your favorite?  I think my own personal favorite is in my bedroom as a jewelry station.  As a matter of fact, for now, that is where it is staying.  I moved the DIY jewelry tray I made down to Miss 18 Year Old’s bedroom.  I am sure she will get a lot of use out of it too, and it helped spruce up her somewhat empty looking room, since she took a lot of things out of it when she moved away to college.
