Trashtastic Tuesday- Jute Wrapped Apothecary Jar

November 17, 2015 By Nicki 5 Comments

Jute Wrapped Apothecary Jar

Hey all!  Welcome to Trashtastic Tuesday! This is a little series around here where I show you something that I thrifted, sometimes I make it over, sometimes I don’t.  Or it may be something that I have owned and I am tired of, or no longer like, so I make it over.  But nevertheless, it is usually something that I paid very little money for.  Today I am sharing another old Trashtastic Tuesday post with you that you probably have never seen, since it was written in 2013.  Today, I have updated the pictures and changed the post and am resharing my Jute Wrapped Apothecary Jar.  I have been working on prepping for Christmas and Thanksgiving, and painting our master bath, so I haven’t had much time for my Trashtastic Tuesday projects that I love so much.  But since I just revealed our painted master bath last week, I thought it would fit right in to show you this apothecary jar that holds out soaps.  I hope you enjoy this simple little project.  I have been using it in our master bath for almost three years now!

Here is my first Trashtastic Tuesday of 2013.  It is so very simple.  You might recall these jars I bought at the Goodwill a while back.  If not, you can see the post here.

These jars were .99 at the Goodwill.  I spent waaaay more than .99 of my time peeling all of those Easter stickers off though, trust me!  They are very large jars, so I knew they could be very useful to me.  I had been looking for an apothecary jar that could hold spare soap in my master bath, and I thought one of these jars might work.  For a couple of months I did fill it with soap and put it in my bathroom, but I had plans to fancy up that jar, and I finally got around to it over Christmas Break.

It was all very simple, I just bought some twine at Walmart (I can’t remember the price, but around $6 for a big roll of it), and hot glued it around the top of the jar and part of the lid.  I really like the lids on these jars, they are the kind with rubber that kind of vacuum seals onto the jar.  I laid everything on a piece of cardboard and got to work.  I just glued the twine down a little in the back each time I wrapped it around the jar, I did not glue it all the way around.

Here it is after I finished the base of the jar.  I thought it still needed a little something, so that is when I decided to do the lid as well.

Such a simple project, and it still looks exactly as it did on the day I finished it!  I store all of our soap in this jar.  I use Ivory Soap, and after I purchase it, I just unwrap it and throw it in the jar!  It works out great because I don’t have to find a place for it in my cabinet,a nd hen I need a bar, it is already unwrapped and ready to go, I just open the lid and grab a bar.

How bout them eers????? Yes, I grew up in West Virginia, and when we returned from living in Europe, we lived in Parkersburg for 14 years but have been in Lexington for 25. I know Bridgeport because we always traveled through it to visit my parents. Small world. Thanks for reading The 2 Seasons.
