Trashtastic Tuesday- Mason Jar Makeover

April 7, 2015 By Nicki 6 Comments

Hey all!  Welcome to Trashtastic Tuesday!

Today I am sharing another archived project with you that I originally blogged about back in 2013.

Every Tuesday I try to have a project up on the blog that I purchased at a thrift store, or I use something that I did not have to pay for, and transform it.  This week, I decided to paint inside of a Mason Jar.  I bought two of these Mason Jars from Goodwill for .25.  I liked them because they were large, and they say Atlas strong shoulder Mason on them. I did not originally intend to paint them, but they were all foggy, and try as I might, I could not get them crystal clear again.  So I decided to paint them!   I wanted to paint them both, but my daughter is using one of them as a vase for flowers right now, so I only did one.  I will do the other to match when she is finished using it.  This project was so darn simple!  And I love the way they turned out!

I bought this adorable flower at a local florist, and I want to go back and get a few more to add to the jar.

To do this project, I used about 3/4 of a bottle of white acrylic paint.  I just poured it in and swirled it around to get it all over the inside.  I got impatient with that and aided the paint along with a foam brush.  Then I placed it upside down on a piece of wax paper covered with 4 paper towels.  This way the excess paint would run out.  That took care of any marks from the sponge brush.

After the paint was dry I took a razor blade and cleaned up the inside rim of the jar to make it look neat and clean.  I tied some jute string in a cute bow around the top to make it look festive.
I have really enjoyed my painted mason jar over the past couple of years.  And it is still in rotation in my decor almost all year round.  Right now it is sitting on the bookcase at the top of our stairs.  But I haven’t styled that for Spring yet (oops)!

I hope you enjoyed seeing a Trashtastic Tuesday project from my archives!  I have some larger projects underway here on the homefront (I’m painting my living room walls!!!!!!!!! #canyoutellimexcited ) that I am not ready to show on the blog yet.  So I haven’t had much time to work on any new Trashtastic projects.  Plus, it is great to rehabilitate some of my older posts with fresh photography!  It brings those oldies back to life!
I am so happy that you joined me today for Trashtastic Tuesday!  I usually write a Trashtastic Tuesday post every other week, so check back for more projects if you like this one!  You can also stalk all of my Trashtastic Tuesday posts by clicking here.
Have a fantastic Tuesday!

That is a great idea! I have also been adding more pops of white. I think it is my way of wishing for spring! 🙂
