Trashtastic Tuesday- Painted Thrift Store Magazine Rack

This is a little series around here where I show you something that I thrifted, sometimes I make it over, sometimes I don’t. Or it may be something that I have owned and I am tired of, or no longer like, so I make it over. But nevertheless, it is usually something that I paid very little money for.

I purchased this wooden magazine rack at a thrift store for $1, and when I saw it I thought it would make a cute toilet paper holder/magazine rack for our master bathroom. But when I was trying to come up with a title for this post, I decided to leave out the toilet paper holder part. I mean, does anyone really wanna talk about TP? As you can see, we haven’t actually hung it yet, so in the pictures I have it hanging from a few different knobs and hooks so that I can share it with you today. Here it is hanging from my DIY chalkboard in our downstairs family room. The chalkboard was also a Trashtastic Tuesday project from a couple of years ago.

The wooden rod has a little spring on it so you can easily change the toilet paper roll. I decided to paint it a pale blue because I thought that would look pretty with what I already have going on in the master bathroom. The paint I chose was Krylon Cover Maxx in Aqua matte. I had not used this particular spray paint before. And I was very happy with the way it sprayed and the way it covered. It is a paint + primer.

All I did to prep this was to clean it. And then I gave it four light coats of spray paint, waiting for it to dry for 10 minutes in between each coat. Here I have it hanging in our bathroom so that you can see how it goes with the curtains in this room. The walls still need to be painted in here, so we won’t install this until the painting is finished.
