Hey all! Welcome to Trashtastic Tuesday! This is a little series around here where I show you something that I thrifted, sometimes I make it over, sometimes I don’t. Or it may be something that I have owned and I am tired of, or no longer like, so I make it over. But nevertheless, it is usually something that I paid very little money for. Today’s project was not thrifted, or trash really, but I decided it would fit for Trashtastic Tuesday because I only paid $5 for it, and I did also make it over. I love this painted wooden arrow that I recently added to my gallery wall in the living room. I think it is the perfect addition!
I purchased this unfinished wooden arrow at Target for $4.99. I had been thinking I wanted to hang an arrow in this very spot on my gallery wall, and when I saw this, I knew I could make it work. And for such a cheap price, you can’t beat it!
In July, I attended the Haven Conference, which is a conference for DIY bloggers (you can read all about my experience here). I received lots of different free samples of products, and one of the samples I received was Fusion Mineral Paint. I decided to give this paint a try on my arrow. This paint is 100% acrylic, requires minimal prep work (I did none), has a matte finish, and it has a built in top coat. The color I used is called Upper Canada. I love the soft green color!
After the paint had dried, I decided it would look really pretty with some metallic on it. So I enlisted my artsy daughter, Delaney, to use some acrylic paint to paint the arrow on. The paint she used is DecorArt Dazzling Metallics in champagne gold. I love the way the metallic paint looks on the matte soft green paint.
After everything was dry, it was time to find a way to hang this sucker. Here is an added bonus for you – you can use paper clips and a hot glue gun to hang something that is not heavy like this. You can see in the picture below that I just hot glued a couple of paper clips to the back of this arrow. I made sure that I made the paper clips stick up above the wood just a tiny little bit, because I wanted to tie some jute onto them and then hang the arrow from it.
Now would be the time to tell you that since I took the pictures of this gallery wall, I have moved the arrow a little to the right from where it is hanging in these pictures. But I took the pictures of it hanging in my gallery wall before I realized that it was a little too far to the left. I was a woman on a mission to get these pictures done in the midst of a very busy weekend. In case you missed it, I recently painted my living room, and I love the color!
I love this gallery wall! And I think this arrow fits right in. And I love how the metallic paint shines on the matte paint. And depending on where in the room you are, and how the light is hitting it at the time.
Have you ever seen my DIY book page wreath before? I am still crushing on it!
I moved the yellow branches to get a couple more shots of the arrow. I guess it is going to be time to put them away and replace them with something more Fall like soon. Sigh…
