Trashtastic Tuesday- Using Goodwill Sweaters to Decorate

December 17, 2013 By Nicki Leave a Comment

I am totally crushing on all of the uses for old sweater’s for decorating that are out there in blog land right now, how about you?  I fell in love with this last winter, and made a no sew sweater pillow.  This year, I wanted to make a couple of more neutral pillows, and then do some other sweater projects with the sleeves.

These are the pillows I purchased at Goodwill.  Obviously I have them on my pillows.  Please excuse my fuzzy zebra blanket.  This lives on my couch unless I am taking pictures for my blog or we have company.  I have told you before that I live with the three little pigs, right?  Oh, and just so you know, I did wash them before using them.  I mean, they are from Goodwill!

I like the texture on these pillows, and they are neutral, so they would match anything.

This is them after I cut off the sleeves.  I still have not actually made them into pillows, but I promise to show them off as soon as I do.

But I did use the sleeves for some really cute things!  Let me show you what I did.  Can you see them on this console table?

I used parts of the sleeves of each sweater and just slid them up onto these two mismatched candles.  I pulled them tight in the front and pinned them with a safety pin in the back.  I tucked the rough edge of the one on the left under, and I left the rough edges on the bottom.  I don’t mind the way they look like that.

I took this white vase I bought at the Goodwill and covered it completely with the sleeve from the cream sweater.  I just wrapped the sweater over the top of the vase and taped it, and I tucked it under around the bottom.  Then I tied a little piece of jute around it.  Then I filled it with some fresh pine and a little berry sprig I bought recently.

I also used parts of the sleeves on the end table next to the sofa.  These are also mismatched candles, but I love the way they look covered with the sweaters!

You can see that I left the edges rough on these candles as well.  I like the rustic vibe they give.

I am hoping to finish off the pillows over Christmas Break and then leave them for the rest of the winter.
The easy part is finished, and now I just have to figure out how this no sewing chica is going to finish off these pillows!
I hope you enjoyed my Trashtastic project today!  I love the rustic, cozy, wintery feel all of my candles have when wrapped with my sweaters.  If you would like to see my other trashtastic projects, please click here.  I would love for you to stay awhile and look around!  And if you missed my Christmas home tour yesterday, please check it out!
Happy Tuesday!
