Hey friends! I’ve been more absent from the blog than usual this week, but for a very good reason! We got a puppy! A 10 week old Pug puppy to be exact, and his name is Tyson Chicken Nugget! I didn’t know that having a puppy is kind of like having a baby, so he has been monopolizing most of our time this week. I’ve been wanting to get this post out for two days, so I am happy to finally get it finished! Today I wanted to share more of our California vacation with you. I shared part of our trip, 3 Sights Worth Seeing in LA back in July. We went to LA in June, and we spent half of our trip in Hollywood, and the other half in this adorable little Airbnb cottage in Venice right along the Venice canals and only about one block from the beach. It was such a cute little cottage, and I wanted to share it with you today. I have lots of pictures to show you of the cottage and the canals, so this post is going to be mostly pictures and not a lot of words. I hope you enjoy!
If you have never heard of Airbnb, it is awesome! It is based in San Francisco, and it is a trusted marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world online. We had never rented through Airbnb before this, but we decided to give it a try because I thought it would be a fun way to experience LA from a different perspective than staying in a hotel. And I have to say, we are so glad we went this route, we absolutely loved our little cottage and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way! This particular cottage was one of two that were right next to each other and owned by the same person. The picture below is the other cottage, it was right along the canals, and ours was right behind it. The outdoor areas were shared by both cottages. All of the pictures in this post were taken with my iPhone because I didn’t take my expensive camera along on the trip.
The picture below is the actual cottage we stayed in. I loved all of the succulents and window boxes on the cottage.
This was the cute little kitchen.
This is looking into the main living area of the cottage from the kitchen.
The daybed served as a sofa, and it also had a trundle that pulled out at the bottom.
The bed was a queen size and was so much more comfy and cozy than a lot of hotel beds I have slept in!
Here is another view of the daybed. We ended up piling all of the decorative pillows from the bed here for the week and just lounging here a lot of the time.
The little table is the perfect size for two people to eat a meal. I sat here on my laptop quite a few mornings.
This dresser was the perfect size for us to unpack for a bit. And I used the top of the dresser to hold all of my things, and I got ready here each day. The closet to the left is where you can hang clothes, and it also contained some beach chairs, beach towels and bath towels.
The bathroom was really adorable. It was actually what sold me on the cottage online, I loved the clawfoot tub! The bathroom was small but sufficient and super cute.
This is a shared outdoor space between the two cottages. There was also a laundry closet out here, which was great because we were able to do all of our laundry before we left to fly home and no laundry to do when we got home. I love that!
This deck faced the gorgeous Venice Canals, and they were by far my favorite part of our stay in Venice. If you keep browsing the rest of the photos of the Venice Canals, you will see why we loved them so much!
The Venice Canal Historic District
The Venice canals is a historic district located in the Venice section of LA. These canals were built in 1905 to mimic the canals of Venice, Italy. Over the years they fell into disrepair and most of them were filled in with concrete back in 1929. The canal district remained in disrepair for more than 40 years, and the sidewalk fell into disrepair. In 1992, they were finally renovated and they reopened in 1993. Since then, they have become a desirable and expensive residential section of the city. all of the pictures below were taken at the canals, and our cottage we rented had a little row boat that we enjoyed using while there.
We witnessed this newly married couple having a photo session on the first day we went to see the canals. I just had to sneak a shot! I thought they looked so lovely, and I have never seen a bride dressed in black like she was. It would never be my choice to wear black, but I did think she looked very beautiful!
There were so many pretty homes all along the canals. I just loved this persons patio area. The dining table was hanging from the rafters with rope! So pretty, and exactly my style.
I have never seen a hydrangea bush as beautiful as this one was, just look at all of the blooms! And the color is amazing!
There were gorgeous succulents everywhere! I guess because of the drought conditions, and they don’t need a lot of water and hold up in the heat. They were so pretty.
There were lime and lemon trees, and I was thrilled to see them because I hadn’t seen them in person before.
I loved this mint green door with the slate walkway and fuchsia flowers, what a pretty mix of color and texture.
I hope you enjoyed seeing a little more of our trip to LA today. The Venice Canals truly were a picturesque place to visit, and our cottage was a delightful and cozy place to stay. If you ever get a chance, you should go and see them for yourself! Have you ever been to the Venice Canals? If so, I would love to know what you think of them. Please tell me about them in the comments. I love your comments and I read every one! I hope you have a great weekend, and I’ll leave you with a picture of our new puppy, Tyson Chicken Nugget! How can anyone resist this little cutie pie!
