How to put together a chic meat and cheese board- Great food for entertaining!

Hey friends!  Aside from my family, husband and children, I would have to say that I don’t know where I would be if it were not for my friendships with strong women.  As I was sitting here trying to think about where to start with this post and what to say about my girlfriends, this is one of the fist things that comes to my mind.  I honestly don’t know where I would be without them.  And, it’s not just one group of women, it is various different women who don’t necessarily even know each other. Women who have played key roles in my life in so many different areas of my life.  Some of my favorite times have been spent just sitting around and chatting with and laughing with my friends. And not only am I going to talk a little more about what these friendships have meant to me through the years, but I am going to show you how to make an easy yet chic way to make a meat and cheese tray to serve with some beautiful Callie Collection Wine so you can quickly put together a girls night (or afternoon) and enjoy some girl time!

When I was growing up, my relationships with my girlfriends were one of the most important things to me.  There was very little I would rather do than to be with my friends whenever possible.  I’m sure I’m not alone in this.  To this day some of my most important friendships in my life started in high school and even junior high.  I still have a handful of girlfriends with whom I have remained friends ever since high school.  We may not talk on the phone daily or see each other as often as we would like, but give us 5 minutes together, and it will be like we were never apart at all.  We have been through thick and thin together.  And when I went through a terrible divorce, it was a few of these women who have been my friends for what seems like my whole life who got me through the worst and darkest period in my life.

And then there are my friends from college.  I made so many great memories with them during and after college.  And unfortunately, these women don’t live anywhere near me now, but they are still near and dear to my heart, and it is fun to be able to keep up with them and their lives on social media.  Let’s not leave out the friendships I have formed at the various jobs I have had throughout my life.  My work friends are probably the friends I see the most just because we work together.  And some no longer do work with me, but we formed friendships that will last a lifetime, and I love all of them dearly.  I  have some friends I have made through my faith and a prayer group I attend.  And these women of God are my prayer warriors, and I know they will always be there when I need prayer- and that means more to me than they may ever know.  These strong, Godly women are an inspiration to me on a daily basis.

And last, but certainly not least, are the friends I have made because of this blog.  One in particular who was at first a reader of my blog, but has grown to be such a great friend, and our two families have a blast spending time together.  And then there are the fellow bloggers who are my newest friends.  The women I have met through this crazy ride called blogging, and we have joined together and formed a tribe, and I literally do not know what I would do without them.  We are scattered all about the country,  but we support each other and help each other, and we have each others backs.  And I am so thankful for them!

As I sit here writing these words, I am struck by just how blessed I am.  I love all of my girlfriends, and all of them serve different purposes in my life, and have enriched my life tremendously.  I am so lucky to call each and every one of them friend, and although I didn’t mention a single name today, they all know who they are.  Some of them read my blog, and some of them barely know what a blog even is.  But all of them are special to me.  I just had a little girls night with a friend of mine who came in from out of town over the weekend, a friend whom I only get to see once or twice per year, so I cherish those visits.  And we usually just sit around and talk and laugh, and just enjoy being together.  It is times like these spent with friends that I wish I could just stop time.  And this is where the meat and cheese board comes in!  I love to make these.  They take very little effort, but they look so pretty, and usually everyone loves them!  And they pair perfectly with a nice glass of wine from the Callie Collection.  Sourced from central California’s coastline Callie Collection wine is balanced and easy to drink, with beautiful aromas and fresh flavors, and available in Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Fresh Red Blend.

Arranging a meat and cheese board is truly one of the easiest ways to provide food for a small or large group, and it always goes over well when I have one. I made this labeled graphic below so you can have an easy way to put one together for yourself.  But it is important to note that you can do a variety of different things on a meat and cheese board. This is the one I put together the most recently, but I have put together other ones that have different things on them, all delicious though.

How to Put Together a Meat and Cheese Board:

Ingredients
  • A mix of 2-3 different cheeses.  1 classic cheese, and one or two gourmet cheeses.  This particular board contains white cheddar, brie, and Camembert cheeses.
  • A mix of 2-3 different meats.  This board contains summer sausage, salami, and prosciutto.
  • Fruit or something sweet.  ON this board I have grapes, but strawberries, peaches, dried apricots, or apples are other things I have put on boards in the past.  I also have a blackberry jam on this particular board, but honey is great as well.
  • Crackers or bread.  I generally like to have one type of cracker and one type of bread.  I like to serve crusty french bread and these crackers are flatbread crackers just because that is what they had at the store that looked good, but I have served other varieties as well.
  • A mix of olives or pickles.  I have both on this board.
  • Something crunchy like nuts.  I have a bowl of mixed nuts on this board.
  • Arrange it all together in a pretty display!  This is the fun part.  I made this display  starting with a white base.  On top of that I layered a piece of chalkboard wrapping paper, and then I layered on a few different cutting boards.  I used some different white serving bowls for the olives and nuts. And of course, your selection of Callie Collection wines and some oh so pretty wine glasses finish everything off perfectly.

A meat and cheese board is a beautiful yet easy way to provide lovely snacks for a girls night.  All you have to do is purchase the ingredients and arrange them artfully in a display, and then sit back and let time stop for a few hours.  Enjoy your time with your girlfriends!  They are sometimes too few and far between, are they not?

I think a meat and cheese board is one of my favorite ways to entertain!  And Callie Collection Wine goes so perfectly with it all!  A great thing about this particular wine is the twist on twist off cork, I love that, and it is so much easier to open and close- it’s just perfect!  It provides the sophistication of a cork with the convenience of a screwcap.  Do you love meat and cheese boards as much as I do? What do you like to put on yours?  What is your favorite wine to pair with these types of foods?  I would love you to share in the comments.  I love your comments and I read and try to respond to them all!
