Hi all! I have some great tips to share with you today to help you make a great first impression and put your best face forward. Who doesn’t love a sparkling white smile? When a person has a nice white smile, it automatically attracts people. Americans spend billions of dollars a year on teeth whitening, and I have contributed my fair share to that. I will be the first person to admit I want a nice white smile, and I want my entire family to have one too. Those over the counter teeth whiteners are not cheap, so I set out on a mission to learn some natural, home made ways to whiten the teeth of myself and my family. I have two recipes to share with you today that will help you get that beautiful white smile for a lot less money- and you can do it easily yourself!
The first one is a paste that you can use to brush your teeth.
Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide
This works great as a natural teeth whitener. I have been using it myself for a couple of weeks now, and I have also got my husband to start using it. Hydrogen Peroxide is an antibacterial agent and works great as a tooth and gum cleaner and keeps the mouth free of germs.
Mix a small amount of baking soda with hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. The paste should not be gritty at all and should be more runny than stiff. Brush your teeth with it as you normally would with any tooth paste. Be careful with making the paste too thick because the grittiness of the baking soda is abrasive and can take the enamel off of your teeth. I have been keeping mine in a small bowl with a lid and using it at night before I go to bed. It doesn’t taste great, so I still like to use my regular toothpaste in the morning to get that fresh breath feeling. But I have to say that I love the way this stuff makes my teeth feel. They feel almost as clean as they do after I go to the dentist for a cleaning, and my teeth are definitely whiter.
The next method is a mouth wash that you can make yourself.
Apple Cider Vinegar Mouthwash
This is a great home remedy for bad breath, thrush, chronic gum infections, and tooth stains. It is important to note that Apple cider vinegar is an acid, so you must brush your teeth immediately after you use it as a mouthwash. With standard over the counter mouthwash, I use it after brushing. Not this stuff, this is a pre brush mouth wash. Just mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water. I also added in a few drops of spearmint oil. Don’t add too much! I made that mistake and it burned my mouth when I used it. I had to mix another batch! Swish the mixture around in yoru mouth for 10-15 seconds, spit it out, and brush your teeth!
One of the things on my daughter Delaney’s Christmas list this year was an electric toothbrush, so this opportunity to try the Philips Sonicare 2 Series came as perfect timing! You can find this toothbrush at Target, where they have three colors that are exclusive to Target, red, green and blue. I went to purchase this toothbrush for my daughter, and I’m not gonna lie, I just had to gift myself with one too, I couldn’t resist! I have a lot of problems with my teeth, and I have been wanting to try this toothbrush for a while now. I am happy to report that I have been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I am in love! It removes up to 6 times more plaque than a regular toothbrush, and my teeth have never felt more clean. I have no doubt that my daughter is going to love this Christmas gift this year!
I found my Philips Sonicare 2 Series at Target on an end cap, so it was super easy to spot. And might I just say that Target is one of my favorite stores of all time! I seriously can’t get enough of that place! Only problem is I always end up spending three times in there than I planned. And I always end up buying more things than I went in there for, just like this toothbrush. I went in for one, and came out with two!
I am also going to mix up some batches of the toothpaste and mouthwash to gift to her as well, so she can use them to get a nice naturally white smile! She has always been very conscientious about taking care of her teeth and she has a beautiful smile. At 19 years old, she proudly tells people that she has only ever had one cavity in her entire life. So she is really going to enjoy how clean and fresh this toothbrush and the home made tooth paste and mouthwash make her mouth and teeth feel! This is going to make her feel great about putting her best face forward, and it is making me feel great too! I just might have to go out and get one of these Philips Sonicare tooth brushes for everyone in my family!
Have you ever tried any home made natural whitening methods to whiten your teeth? If you know of a different way, please share away in the comments! What special person in your life might like this gift idea this year? Or are you going to do what I did and purchase one for a special person in your life, and gift one to yourself? I try not to do that all of the time or I would never be able to afford Christmas, but in this case I simply could not resist!
